Volunteer All Year Long: Get Involved with Soldiers’ Angels’ Annual Campaigns

Supporting Service Members, Veterans, and their families is not limited to one moment or one holiday. At Soldiers’ Angels, service happens year-round through thoughtfully designed campaigns that meet real needs while offering accessible, meaningful ways to give back. Whether you participate as an individual, a family, a school, a faith group, a nonprofit, or a large corporation, there is a place for you in this work.

Our annual campaigns make it easy to engage at any level, from writing messages of encouragement to organizing large-scale collection drives that mobilize entire communities. Below is a look at how you can serve throughout the year.

Winter Campaigns: Reflection, Gratitude, and Connection

Winter is a time when connection matters most. As the year begins, these campaigns offer opportunities to reflect on service, express gratitude, and remind Service Members and Veterans that they are not alone.

MLK Day of Service (January 1–31)

Our MLK Day of Service campaign honors Dr. King’s belief that service strengthens communities and builds understanding. During this campaign, supporters are invited to send care packages to deployed Service Members. For many participants, this is a powerful introduction to Soldiers’ Angels because no ongoing volunteer commitment is required. It is an ideal opportunity for individuals, classrooms, employees, and families to reflect on the meaning of service while taking tangible action in support of those who serve our country.

Valentines for Veterans (January 1–February 14)

Valentines for Veterans focuses on spreading messages of appreciation to Veterans and Service Members in honor of the Valentine’s Day season. Participants create or purchase Valentine’s Day cards and write messages of support and gratitude that remind Veterans they are seen and valued. This campaign is perfect as a craft project for kids, making it a favorite for families, schools, and youth groups. It is also a fun and meaningful employee engagement activity that offers teams a creative way to give back together while lifting spirits during the winter months.

Warm Feet for Warriors (February 1–March 31)

Warm Feet for Warriors provides deployed Service Members and Veterans with one of the most requested and essential items: socks. This campaign is well suited for collection drives and can easily involve entire offices, schools, gyms, faith communities, or neighborhoods. Hosting a sock drive is a great ways to involve a community or group. Many participants designate collection bins, set friendly donation challenges between departments, or tie the drive to an awareness event or staff meeting to increase participation and engagement.

Spring Campaigns: Honoring Service in All Forms

Spring is a season of recognition and renewal. These campaigns highlight the many ways Service Members serve, including the critical roles played by military working dogs and their handlers.

Honor Military Working Dogs

Military Working Dogs play a critical role in protecting Service Members by detecting explosives, assisting in patrols, and providing security in dangerous environments. This campaign recognizes not only the bravery and service of these dogs, but also the deep bond between the dogs and their handlers. Supporting this campaign means honoring the team as a whole, acknowledging the unique challenges and responsibilities handlers carry while caring for and working alongside their canine partners. Summer Campaigns: Preparing for the Cold Ahead

While summer brings warmer temperatures, it is also a critical time to plan ahead. During the Summer, we focus on preparation and prevention, ensuring Veterans have the support they need before winter arrives.

Operation: Warm Winter (July 1–September 30)

Operation: Warm Winter takes place during the summer months to prepare for the colder seasons ahead. This campaign focuses on collecting winter essentials such as blankets, gloves, coats, and hats to support homeless Veterans before temperatures drop. Planning and collecting during the summer allows organizations and communities to be proactive rather than reactive. This campaign is great for large-scale drives but also an easy way to get involved as an individual. Items can be purchased and shipped easily through online retailers or USPS or, if you’re crafty, you can pour your creativity into blanket, hats, or scarves. We even have a tutorial for No Sew Blankets! Check that out here.

Campaigns for the Holiday Season

The holiday season is a time of giving, togetherness, and generosity. These campaigns offer fun ways to bring comfort, joy, and practical support to Service Members and Veterans during the busiest and most meaningful time of year.

Treats for Troops (November 1–December 31)

Treats for Troops turns leftover Halloween candy into a meaningful way to support deployed Service Members and Veteran patients. After Halloween, many households, schools, and workplaces find themselves with extra candy—and this campaign offers a simple, impactful way to put it to good use. Businesses are encouraged to organize Halloween candy collection drives, making it easy for communities, classrooms, and companies to clear out excess treats while sending a taste of home to Service Members serving far away.

Holiday Stockings for Heroes (September 1–December 6)

Holiday Stockings for Heroes invites supporters to collect small items and come together to stuff stockings for Service Members and Veterans. Many families turn stocking stuffing into an annual tradition, often gathering around Thanksgiving to assemble stockings together while companies make it part of their holiday party or employee engagement event. This campaign offers multiple ways to participate, from organizing item drives to hosting stocking-stuffing events that bring people together in service.

Adopt-A-Family

Adopt-A-Family provides direct holiday support to Military families in need. Groups often come together to shop for gifts, making it a shared experience that builds connection and purpose. Many participants also host wrapping parties, turning the final step into a celebratory moment of service. This campaign is especially meaningful for teams and organizations looking for a hands-on, personal way to support families during the holidays or for families who want to instill the importance of giving back, creating a meaningful holiday experience for children.

Year-Round Impact

Some needs never stop, and neither does service.

Go Camo (Year-Round)

Go Camo is the only Soldiers’ Angels campaign that runs year-round, offering a flexible and consistent way to support deployed Service Members through care packages. Because it is not tied to a specific season, Go Camo is ideal for organizations that want to build service into their culture on an ongoing basis. It allows participants to contribute whenever they are ready, making it a reliable and sustained way to show support throughout the year.

Become an Angel Volunteer

In addition to participating in seasonal campaigns and Go Camo, becoming a registered Soldiers’ Angels volunteer opens the door to year-round opportunities to support Service Members and Veterans in ways that match your interests and skills. Virtual volunteers can write letters of encouragement, bake homemade goods, sew and craft comfort items, and participate in many other hands-on activities that bring care and connection to those who serve. Everyone Can Serve

Soldiers’ Angels campaigns are designed to meet people where they are. You can participate as an individual, with your family, through a school or community organization, small business, or as part of a large corporation. Many campaigns are well suited for collection drives and group activities, making them powerful tools for employee engagement and community building.

No matter the season, there is always an opportunity to serve. Together, we can ensure Service Members, Veterans, and their families feel supported, appreciated, and remembered all year long.
