How You Can Be An Angel this Holiday Season
December 6, 2025
The holiday season is a time when generosity shines a little brighter, communities come closer together, and simple acts of kindness can make a powerful impact. It is a moment to reflect on what truly matters and to give back in ways that bring joy, hope, and connection to others. Through Soldiers’ Angels holiday volunteer opportunities, you can turn that spirit of giving into meaningful support for Military and Veteran families.

Many of these families are navigating deployments, medical challenges, or financial strain during a season when they deserve to feel supported and celebrated. When you choose to give back through Soldiers’ Angels, you help ensure that no Military family or Veteran faces the holidays feeling overlooked or alone. Your compassion creates real holiday magic, turning moments of stress into moments of relief and gratitude.
This season, there are many ways you can be an Angel and share kindness with those who have sacrificed so much. Here is how you can get involved.
Adopt A Family And Make The Holidays Brighter
For many Military and Veteran families, the holidays can feel overwhelming. Deployments, medical challenges, and financial strain can make it difficult to create the holiday experience their children deserve. Through the Soldiers’ Angels Adopt-A-Family, you can directly support one of these families and ensure they have a joyful holiday. When you adopt a family, you provide a grocery gift card so they can prepare a holiday meal, you give a gift for each child in the household, and you remind a Military or Veteran family that they are not forgotten. These simple and meaningful gestures change lives during a season when hope can feel hard to find. Learn more or sign up here.
“The support, kindness, and love has brought me back to life. I was dreading the holidays more than ever this year, believing it was destined to be the worst one ever. Little did I know the number of Angels that care about me and my family without even having much personal knowledge of us.
Not only have I been able to sing a christmas song or two with the kids, helped with some decorations, and even hope to bake cookies too. This Christmas has felt like I always dreamed it could, your organization has not only brought hope and joy back into my life but also helped restore my desire to continue pushing to be the best individual I can be. Sometimes a stranger’s kindness can change lives, I am certain the Angel’s and your organization have changed mine in so many positive ways, I am forever grateful.”

Donate To Help Ship Holiday Stockings For Heroes
Every year, our Holiday Stockings for Heroes campaign delivers thousands of stuffed stockings to deployed Service Members, VA patients, and Guard and Reserve units. They are packed with snacks, hygiene items, puzzles, warm wishes, and festive cheer. The deadline to get stuffed stockings to the final destination is December 9th! If you’re feeling determined, there’s still time to stuff a few and send them out (more on that here)! BUT there’s another way you can support this campaign. Shipping these stockings across the country and around the world takes resources. Even if you cannot fill a stocking yourself, your donation can help us ship joy to those who need it most. Volunteer At A December Food Distribution Or Pantry
Food insecurity should not be part of anyone’s holiday season, especially not for the Veterans who have served our nation. Soldiers’ Angels hosts monthly food distributions and pantry events across the country, providing thousands of Military and Veteran families with groceries, fresh produce, and seasonal items. These events are about more than giving out groceries, they’re a way to say thank you, exchange a smile, and ensure Service Members and Veterans in your community feel appreciated. We currently host food distributions in Atlanta, Charleston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Orlando, San Antonio, and Washington D.C. We have Food Pantries in Charlotte/Salisbury and Detroit. Learn more here.
“I just wanted to say thank you for all you do! I have been receiving the food distribution for a few months now, and it has made a world of difference in my life. I appreciate the kind words your volunteers always provide, as well as the food. It’s nice to feel and hear appreciation from you folks, and may God bless you!”

Support VA Holiday Events
Inside VA Hospitals, the holidays can be especially tough. Many Veteran patients cannot be home with family or may not have visitors at all. By volunteering at a VA holiday event, you can bring companionship, warmth, and joyful moments to Veterans who need it most. You can help with coffee carts, holiday parties, patient visits, and festive activities like handing out holiday stockings. Start by registering as a volunteer. Once you’re in, you can find opportunities near you. Learn more about volunteering in person here.
“Today I am sitting in the infusion clinic at the Palo Alto VA and in come two gentlemen handing out beautiful quilts and beanies. My quilt is a gorgeous olive green knitted quilt and I absolutely love it. The veteran sitting next to me received a red, white, and blue quilt and he is so touched by the kindness of the volunteers. I am grateful and touched by such kindness. A simple thank you is not nearly enough to convey my appreciation.”

Become An Angel Volunteer And Send Holiday Cheer Overseas
Thousands of deployed Service Members will spend the holidays far from home, missing family traditions, warm meals, and the companionship of loved ones. As an Angel Volunteer, you can send holiday themed letters, care packages, cards, and even baked goods to remind our troops they are loved and supported. This is a meaningful way to brighten the spirits of Service Members who are far from home during the holiday season. Learn more about becoming a Virtual Angel Volunteer here.
“I would like to thank you for all the treats, care packages, letters, and cards that I have received. When I am having a bad day, missing home, or just lonely the volunteers have been a breath of fresh air. Please forward this to all your volunteers to let them know that I truly appreciate it and that they are truly Soldiers’ Angels!”

This Holiday Season, Your Kindness Makes All The Difference
No gesture is too small. No donation is insignificant. No volunteer hour goes unnoticed. When you give your time, your heart, or your resources, you help ensure that no Service Member, Veteran, or Military family faces the holidays alone. This December, you can be an Angel. Spread hope, share joy, and support those who have given so much for all of us.
