National Nonprofit Day: Why We Serve, How We’re Rated, and What It Means to Us
August 14, 2025

National Nonprofit Day, observed every year on August 17, honors the mission-driven work of nonprofit organizations across the country—and for us at Soldiers’ Angels, it’s a meaningful moment to pause and reflect on why we do what we do.
For over 20 years, we’ve been on a mission to provide aid, comfort, and resources to Service Members, Veterans, and their families. And thanks to our volunteers, donors, and partners across the country, we’re proud to be an organization that’s known for delivering compassionate care—efficiently, effectively, and with deep integrity.
How We Serve Service Members
When Service Members are deployed, they’re often far from the comforts of home and the people who care about them most. That’s where we come in. Through our Deployed Support programs, volunteers “adopt” a Service Member and send monthly care packages, letters, and snacks—reminders that they’re never alone.

We also work directly with deployed Chaplains and entire units, supplying snacks, handmade items, and activities to lift morale and bring comfort to groups serving in combat zones or remote areas. We’ve also been known to send party supplies for holiday parties, luaus, spa days, and other fun events.

But our support doesn’t end there. We’re also proud to serve Active Duty personnel stationed at home and abroad. Soldiers’ Angels distributes snacks, seasonal gear, and other essential supplies—gathered through our rotating collection drives and with the help of our many corporate partners—to bases across the U.S. and overseas. When Active Duty families face food insecurity, they can also attend our Military & Veteran Food Distributions, where we provide groceries and essential pantry items to those in need.
Whether it’s across the world or at home base, we’re here to make sure Service Members feel the support of a grateful nation.
How We Support Veterans
Veterans face unique challenges, and we’re committed to meeting them with care, consistency, and compassion. Our Veteran Support programs are active in VA Hospitals and medical centers across the country, and we show up in many ways:
- Hosting monthly Military & Veteran Food Distributions to help alleviate food insecurity among low-income and at-risk Veterans and their families.
- Making regular patient visits and hosting events at VA hospitals, bringing warmth and conversation to Veterans receiving care.
- Distributing hygiene kits, box lunches, and transportation assistance to homeless Veterans or those working with VA case managers.
- Providing canteen gift cards so Veterans receiving treatment at the VA can enjoy a hot meal
- Organizing holiday and special occasion distributions—from Valentine’s Day to Veterans Day to Christmas—to make sure Veterans know they are remembered and appreciated.

Our mission is to be there in moments of need, celebration, and recovery—and to serve with the respect our Veterans deserve.
How We Care for Military Families & Caregivers
Behind every Service Member is a family—and often, a caregiver—holding everything together. That’s why we created programs like Women of Valor to offer resources, encouragement, and community.
We provide emotional support, Blessing Boxes, and access to telemedicine through MD Live to caregivers of wounded, ill, and injured Service Members and Veterans. We also host Baby Showers for expectant spouses of deployed troops, and coordinate Adopt-A-Family to support families during the holiday season.

When families sacrifice alongside those who serve, they deserve to be seen, supported, and surrounded by care.
Why Accreditation & Ratings Matter to Us
We know that trust matters—especially when you’re choosing where to give your time or donate your hard-earned dollars. That’s why we’re incredibly proud of the transparency, accountability, and efficiency that define Soldiers’ Angels.
Here’s how we measure up:
- We’ve received the highest rating—4 stars—from Charity Navigator, based on our strong financial health and transparency.
- Our efficiency rating consistently falls between 95–97%, meaning nearly every dollar goes directly to programs, not overhead.
- We meet all 20 accountability standards set by the Better Business Bureau.
- We hold the Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid (formerly GuideStar)—the highest level available.
- And thanks to the incredible feedback from volunteers and supporters, we’ve been named a Top-Rated Nonprofit by GreatNonprofits for 11 years in a row.
These aren’t just badges or numbers—they’re a reflection of our commitment to doing the most good with the resources we’re entrusted with.
National Nonprofit Day Means Something Deep to Us
Being a nonprofit isn’t just about tax status—it’s about people. It’s about service. It’s about walking alongside our heroes and making sure no one feels forgotten.
National Nonprofit Day reminds us that we don’t do this work alone. Our community of volunteers, donors, and supporters is what makes everything possible. Whether you’ve written letters, sent care packages, donated to a campaign, or simply helped us spread the word—you are part of the Soldiers’ Angels family.
