Celebrating a WWII Veteran’s 100th Birthday

In Sacramento, Soldiers’ Angels volunteer Chris and his team of Angels had the honor of helping celebrate the 100th birthday of WWII Veteran Mr. Russell.

Mr. Russell, a U.S. Air Force hero, served in the European theater during World War II, flying 38 missions as part of a B-24 Liberator heavy bomber crew. His bravery earned him both the Purple Heart and Silver Star, the third-highest military combat decoration that can be awarded to a member of the United States Armed Forces.

To mark this incredible milestone, Soldiers’ Angels organized a special celebration. A meal was provided by Old Spaghetti Factory and Raley’s, bringing together a sense of community to honor Mr. Russell. In addition to the meal, Mr. Russell was gifted a Soldiers’ Angels hat and a beautiful quilt, tokens of appreciation for his service.

But the 100th birthday celebration didn’t stop there—around 20 heartfelt birthday cards were sent in by Soldiers’ Angels virtual volunteers, adding an extra touch of warmth to the occasion. Sacramento volunteers also brought individual gifts, including hygiene items, to make the day even more memorable.

It’s moments like these that highlight the importance of community, gratitude, and remembrance. Soldiers’ Angels is proud to have been part of such a meaningful day, celebrating the legacy of a true American hero.

By coming together, the Soldiers’ Angels team and volunteers were able to create a day filled with joy, appreciation, and respect for one of our nation’s brave Veterans. It serves as a reminder that every gesture, no matter how small, can make a profound difference in the lives of those who have served.
