Why Hiring a Veteran is a Smart Business Move
July 24, 2025
At Soldiers’ Angels, we don’t just serve Veterans—we also hire them. And every day, we witness firsthand the value Veterans bring to the workplace. They are not only trained to serve under pressure but to lead, adapt, and execute with integrity. When you hire a Veteran, you’re getting much more than a resume—you’re gaining a teammate with a mission-first mindset, an unshakeable work ethic, and a unique ability to elevate those around them.

But don’t just take our word for it—here’s what some of the Veterans on our team had to say.
Veterans Lead with Resilience and Integrity
“Resiliency—being able to bounce back from adversity—is a skill that can be utilized in both a combat zone and a corporate office,” shares Matt Stever, a Marine Corps Veteran. “It requires self-reflection and acceptance.”
Matt also emphasized the importance of integrity in the workplace. “A trait that is slow to earn and quick to lose… Marines pride themselves on trust. Being honest is a core value; it facilitates ethical decision-making and accountability.”
These foundational traits make Veterans powerful assets in high-stakes environments where trust, adaptability, and poise are non-negotiable.
Veterans Get the Job Done—No Matter What
“Veterans are an asset to any organization because we are hellbent on accomplishing the mission,” says Bethany, a Marine Corps Veteran. “Even if it means working long hours with strict deadlines in less than favorable conditions.”
Driven by grit and a can-do attitude, Bethany highlights what many employers come to quickly appreciate: “We work smarter, not harder, which makes us both effective and efficient, saving companies time and money. Finally, we are used to doing more with less, which means we are capable and resourceful.”
Veterans Are Born Team Players and Confident Leaders
Adaptability, confidence, and trustworthiness are core traits in military training. For Adrian, a Navy Veteran, these qualities are the difference-makers.

“If I were a manager at a company… and one of my new hires was a Veteran, I would choose him or her to take charge of tasks in my absence,” Adrian said. “It’s a guarantee that they have some level of work ability and confidence that I cannot guarantee for random applicants.”
Veterans Are Mission-Focused, Team-Oriented, and Confident
The transition from Military to civilian life doesn’t erase the qualities that defined a Veteran’s service. Instead, those values become a guiding light in their new careers.

“At the heart of military service is teamwork,” says Thom, Dallas Area Director for Soldiers’ Angels. “Veterans are proactive, collaborative, and not afraid to take the lead. While some employees hesitate, Veterans jump in—fueled by experience and commitment.”
He continues: “They approach challenges with determination, putting mission above comfort. Their confidence is not only beneficial to themselves—it’s contagious. It raises the bar for the entire team.”
Corporate Sponsors with Strong Veteran Hiring Programs
We’re also proud to be supported by companies that don’t just say they support Veterans—they hire them.
- USAA was founded by Military officers and continues that legacy by actively hiring Veterans through tailored programs and tools that translate Military skills into civilian roles.
- Boeing employs thousands of Veterans and supports them through Veteran resource groups and specialized career pathways.
- Lockheed Martin offers programs like “Continuing Your Mission” and “Handshake 2 Hire” to help Veterans transition seamlessly into civilian careers—especially in aerospace and defense.
- U.S. Venture has a dedicated Veterans Career Portal where you can input your MOS to find matched roles. Their “Service Ventures” employee group helps Veterans feel at home from day one.
These companies understand that hiring Veterans isn’t just good ethics—it’s good business.
Whether you’re running a nonprofit, managing a team, or leading a corporation, bringing Veterans into your workplace means investing in leaders who are trained to adapt, built to lead, and ready to serve—this time, in the name of your mission. We are proud to have so many Veterans on our team here at Soldiers’ Angels!
