New Music Raises Money & Morale

12/07/09

Just in time for the Holiday Season, a number of talented musicians are putting their beautiful gifts to work, raising morale and supporting the troops with donations…

Remembrance Records presents Holiday Angel, a new hit in the nostalgic style of The Whisperettes.  Drawing on the sound of early 1960’s “girl groups,”The Whisperettes remind listeners to think of America’s deployed troops who must spend the Holidays away from their loved ones.  Ten percent of the royalties from Holiday Angel playing on radio stations across the country will be donated to Soldiers’ Angels.  Written by Ian Cooney, it will also be heard in the Whisperettes’ upcoming musical, Brill: The Story of the Songs.

The nostalgic and lyrical Christmas USA was written by Frank Pangborn, a Vietnam veteran who strove write a song for soldiers who are thinking of home during the holidays.  Singer and co-writer Amy Jo Ellis offered it to Soldiers’ Angels, explaining that “the song is based on Frank’s feeling while spending Christmas in the jungles of Vietnam,” though it describes the feelings of deployed soldiers everywhere.  Amy will be donating proceeds from sales of her album Christmas USA to Soldiers’ Angels (keep watching for more info on how to purchase).  She recently discovered Soldiers’ Angels and writes, “I feel that programs in your organization are a perfect match.”

With Love from an American is an energetic country-style song with jazz overtones, encouraging Americans to put their support for the troops into action by sending them love in a care package or letter.   Written and performed by Lisa Mei, the song draws on personal experience about the power of a care package: Lisa is a retired Air Force Senior Master Sergeant who has toured with the U.S. Air Force's Tops in Blue and was deployed to the Middle East during Operation Desert Storm in the 1990s.  “I know how our troops miss their loved ones and simple things from home," she says.

Across the ocean, America's allies--who have friends and loved ones fighting alongside American warriors in Afghanistan--have produced a heartrending song about British soldiers who have fallen on the battlefield, “We Will Remember Them.  A production of British pop stars and a children’s choir with orchestral musicians accompanied by a military bagpipe and drum corps, sales of the song raise money for Britain’s Help for the Heroes and The Royal British Legion.

Soldiers' Angels salutes these fantastic artists for their ability to put such feeling into words and music, and for applying that skill in support of the troops!
