CrossFit Competition Supports Troops
On July 28 at the 2nd Annual WOD Gear Clothing CrossFit Team Series competition, 80 teams and 3,000 spectators joined to celebrate their love of CrossFit and support for the troops. Held at the famous Rose Bowl in Pasadena and Sponsored by ASICS, Functional Equipment, and Vita CoCo, the event supported both Soldiers' Angels and Barbells for Boobs, which assists with cancer prevention.
To support the troops, each of the 80 participating teams brought care package items or complete care packages to the event, including cards and letters of support. Spectators also brought care package gifts, though that was not required for entrance. In addition, WOD Gear Clothing will be donating 5% of ticket sales to Soldiers' Angels. CrossFit is a very popular physical training regimen for military personnel, making the entire event a natural fit for Soldiers' Angels.
While being fiercely competitive, the teams at the competition also kept up a spirit of irreverent fun with names like "Beauty and the Beast Mode" and "Super Friends," and dressed in costumes related to their names. Events were centered around common CrossFit workout elements such as chin-ups, rings and sprints/runs.
In attendance from Soldiers' Angels were Operations Manager Ann Davidson, as well as staff members Brett Varn and Jose Beltran. They had the opportunity to interact with both the fans and competing teams and found a warm reception for Soldiers' Angels. "They were really excited to support the troops," Varn reported about the teams he spoke to. Media coverage included local newspapers and online CrossFit organizations across the country, providing connections to a receptive audience.
Big thanks to WOD Gear Clothing for planning this exciting event to support Soldiers' Angels and the troops we serve!
