Veteran Transportation Program
June 7, 2025
Every day, Veterans across the country have vital VA appointments, but for many, one thing stands in the way: transportation. For those living on a limited income without access to a car or public transit, even a short trip to the VA can become a major obstacle. That’s why Soldiers’ Angels created the Veteran Transportation Program. To make sure no Veteran misses a critical appointment simply because they can’t get there.
Why Transportation Matters
Transportation is often overlooked, yet it’s a crucial link between Veterans and the care they need. Without it, even the best VA programs can become inaccessible. For some, a bus pass is enough. For others, a Lyft or Uber may be the only option. And in special cases, a long-distance Greyhound ticket is the only way to reach the right facility.
Veterans who are unable to access travel assistance through VA bene-travel, travel reimbursement, or community resources may find themselves without options. That’s where Soldiers’ Angels steps in.

How the Program Works
This program is specifically for low-income Veterans who:
- Are not eligible for VA ben-travel or travel reimbursement
- Cannot afford to pay for transportation on their own
- Need help getting to medical appointments or other essential VA services
Veterans who qualify receive access to safe, reliable transportation, so they can attend appointments and access VA services. Our program offers:
- Public transportation passes
- Rideshare services such as Lyft and Uber
- Greyhound Bus tickets for long-distance travel
This program is available in select markets, and we hope to continue growing the program as funding allows. Additionally, these services are typically available within a 50-mile radius of a VA hospital. Requests beyond this range will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Special Considerations
While the 50-mile limit is our standard coverage area, exceptions can be made. Special cases—such as long-distance Lyft rides, transportation to emergency shelters, or out-of-state Greyhound travel—must be approved in advance to ensure the program’s resources are used responsibly and effectively.
The Numbers Speaks Volumes
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, this program is making a difference.
- In 2024, we provided 4,326 rides to Veterans
- As of May 21, 2025, we have provided 1,561 rides.
Behind each of these numbers is a Veteran who didn’t have to cancel care or go without treatment. Every ride means someone made it to an appointment they might have otherwise missed. It’s about more than transportation, it’s about preserving dignity and protecting health.
How You Can Help
