Supporting Veterans Through the Holiday Season
December 8, 2022
Did you know that Soldiers’ Angels is the largest food provider to veterans exclusively in the country? We offer Veteran Food Distributions in six locations across the country, offering 75 lbs of groceries to low-income and homeless veterans on a monthly basis. We also distribute box lunches within the VA Hospital and offer Cantine gift cards for veteran patients to eat in the VA cafeteria. The holiday season means even more support for us! We always make sure to do a little extra during the holiday season. Here are some ways we support veterans for the holidays.
Turkey Time in November
In honor of the Thanksgiving holiday, we get festive for all of our Veteran Food Drives and hand out turkeys and other supplies to help with our family’s Thanksgiving meals.
Holiday Fun in December
Holiday support is a massive effort every year at Soldiers’ Angels – supporting both service members and veterans during the holiday season in multiple ways. Our Holiday Stockings for Heroes campaign launches in September, collecting pledges from individuals and organizations to send us stockings by early December while also coordinating our Annual Adopt-A-Family program to support military families in need. Every year, our VA Hospital Representatives spread cheer in the hallways and rooms of VA Hospitals across the country by handing out Holiday stockings from our THOUSANDS of supporters.
We also hand out Holiday stockings to the 200 veterans who come through each of our December Veteran Food Drives. These are some of the most fun events of the year as we do it up with decorations and lots of festive wear! This year in San Antonio, we will be expanding the support to supply holiday meals for 500 veterans through the Veteran Food Distribution!
As we enter into the Winter holidays, our Adopt-a-Family program steps in to support both veteran families and military families of deployed service members who need holiday help. Angel volunteers and Soldiers’ Angels partners step in to provide gifts for the children and gift cards to help with the holiday meal. Here are some photos from last year.
As you can see, veteran support for the holidays is a massive effort! We have over 60,000 volunteers Nationwide and overseas and so far this year they’ve logged over 233,000 hours already! We can’t wait to share more stories as the 2022 holiday season progresses.
