Military Tribute Quilt For Care Packages
August 7, 2014
Hanging in the Indiana War Memorial Museum is a beautiful and special quilt designed to raise money for Soldiers’ Angels care packages. It was made by Angel Grace Atherton and it took 4 years to complete. Grace’s goal is to raise $10,500 for Soldiers’ Angels, which will enable us to send 350 military care packages for an average of $30 each (including postage).
This is not just any quilt, it took hundreds of hours of research and help from others to complete. This quilt has more than just squares of fabric, it has history. In the center is a painting honoring those who served from WWII to the present. The center piece is surrounded by 58 photos and signatures of veterans who previously served or who sacrificed their lives.
“My hope is that this team project will visually honor those who served and sacrificed in the past while encouraging support for those currently serving,” says Grace on her fundraising page.
In memory of Charles McCorkle, who is one of the first veterans pictured on the quilt and who also passed away before the quilt was completed, for every $250 or more that you donate, we will print 10 postcards featuring the painting in the center and send them to you.
It is through the dedication and commitment of wonderful people like Grace that our veterans are honored and funds are generated for other soldiers.
