Through The Lens of a [Military] Child
February 11, 2026

The experience of the military child is one so unique, that many of us may never fully understand. In their most formative years, military children build friendships and make memories, only to leave a couple years later and do it all over again. They learn that nothing is permanent and home isn’t four walls, but instead where your family goes. They learn that sometimes one or both of their parents aren’t home for long periods of time, but it’s for a very important reason.
It’s this unique experience that inspired authors Matt May and Billy Mitchell to start their book series off with its first volume, “A Life In Military Service”. Their goal is to celebrate and share the way that children of Service Members see the world. As they uplift the military child, they have also chosen to donate a portion of the proceeds from every book sold to us here at Soldiers’ Angels.
If you or someone you know has a military child up to and through the age of 17 who may be interested in sharing their perspective, photo submissions are being accepted until May 1, 2026. Photos may be taken on any type of camera- cell phone, digital camera, DSLR, etc. Children may have complete creative control of what they choose to photograph. It can be the sunset, animals, people talking, or whatever else sparks the photographer’s interest.
