Texas Girl Scouts: Operation Cookie

Our President and CEO, Amy Palmer, attended the sweetest care package event in Austin last month. Together with the Girl Scouts of Central Texas (GSCTX), she helped pack 675 care packages that included Girl Scout Cookies, hygiene items, socks, and other goodies. Each Girl Scout even included a handwritten note of thanks.

These little ones sure had their work cut out for them. The care packages filled an entire delivery van from top to bottom, and it took a whole team of us to load and unload from Austin to San Antonio.

“Everyone loves Girl Scout Cookies – especially our troops! Thanks to Girl Scouts of Central Texas for providing our deployed men and women in uniform a taste of home. Campaigns like Operation Cookie are fun yet impactful opportunities to express our gratitude for those who have chosen to sacrifice for our country.” – Amy Palmer

For over a decade, Girl Scouts of Central Texas (GSCTX) has dedicated efforts to uplift military personnel. In 2023, they collaborated with Soldiers’ Angels to distribute 35,000 boxes of customer-purchased Girl Scout Cookies to Service Members worldwide. This year, they hope to exceed that goal. GSCTX serves over 12,500 girls and almost 9,000 adult members across 46 Central Texas counties. Headquartered in Austin, Texas, the organization has service centers in Bryan, Killeen, San Angelo, and Waco.

You can help them by purchasing cookies through Operation Cookie. Your dollars not only support local Girl Scout troops but also provide comfort to Military members, Veterans, and their families. This initiative aligns with GSCTX’s mission to empower girls while fostering community connections.

  • Contact a registered Girl Scout for their online cookie store link and choose the Cookie Share option.
  • Visit www.gsctx.org/cookies, or a Council near you, to connect with a local Girl Scout troop and purchase donated cookies.

Girl Scouts of Central Texas aspires to reach the same goal of 35,000 cookie boxes this year and will close out the donation drive by hosting a packing event for Girl Scout youth and adult volunteers. Girl Scouts will also be creating care packages with items such as crossword and sudoku puzzles, personal hygiene products, travel-sized toiletries, and socks.

Over the past decade, Soldiers’ Angels has received more than six million boxes of Girl Scout Cookies from GSCTX and other troops throughout the country to distribute to deployed Service Members and Veteran patients at VA Medical Centers. We are so grateful for their efforts – and so are our troops, as you can see below.

Do you know what happens to the unsold Girl Scout Cookies in your area? It’s up to each troop to decide where they go. If you’d like to see them donated to Military members, get them in touch with Soldiers’ Angels!
