Military Care Packages: What to send in winter months

During colder months, deployed Service Members often face cold, harsh conditions that can feel tougher when they are far from home. Sending a care package filled with thoughtful seasonal items not only meets practical needs but also boosts morale providing warmth both physically and emotionally. At Soldiers’ Angels, we have created a list of ideas for creating the perfect cold weather care packages with a focus on warmth and comfort.

Warm Clothes and Accessories

  • Thermal Socks
  • Beanies
  • Gloves; one size fits all

The key to staying warm is staying covered. Many deployed Service Members request socks for use both in and out of uniform, so any color of socks is welcome. As for beanies and gloves, black is preferred to ensure they can be worn in uniform.

Personal Care Items

  • Lotion for dry skin
  • Lip balm

Cold weather often leads to dry skin and chapped lips. Lotions and lip balms are great ways to combat this problem. Consider sending unscented lotions or those specifically made for sensitive skin or cold weather.

Warming Beverages

  • Instant Coffee
  • Tea bags
  • Hot chocolate packets
  • Apple cider packets

Warm drinks are a comforting way to stay warm. Please note that all packets must be in Ziploc baggies in case the packets break.

Other Useful Items

  • Hand warmers
  • Pocket size tissues
  • Travel size hand sanitizer

While this list highlights cold-weather care package essentials, you’re not limited to these items. Snacks, energy drinks, small games like cards, and toiletries are always greatly appreciated. Don’t forget to add a personal touch. Handwritten notes or drawings/crafts from children, if applicable, are a great way to make each package feel extra special.

Adding seasonal items to a care package is a simple yet meaningful way to show deployed Service Members that they are remembered and appreciated, no matter how far from home they may be. Don’t have a Service Member to send supplies to but want to support one?
