Join This Year’s Marine Corps Marathon Team
June 4, 2024
Did you know that June 5 is Global Running Day? This worldwide celebration of running encourages people of all ages and abilities to get moving. The inaugural Global Running Day was held on June 1, 2016. More than 2.5 million people from 177 countries pledged to run more than 9.2 million miles. Each year, participants of all ages and abilities pledge to take part in some type of running activity by submitting their names through the Global Running Day website.
In honor of Global Running Day, why not commit to a big challenge and hit the pavement for your first training run? We have a challenge in mind: the 2024 Marine Corps Marathon or 10K. That’s right, we’re gearing up and gathering runners for the Soldiers’ Angels MCM team. Last year, we had 26 team members running the 10K and full marathon, and together they raised $20,708. We had so much fun cheering them on and can’t wait to see who joins this year!
How to join the team
This year, once again, we’ve set up a dedicated team page just for our amazing MCM participants. But, instead of us securing bibs as an organization, we’re encouraging you to purchase your running bib directly from the Marine Corps Marathon website ($220 for an MCM bib and $72 for a 10K bib). With bib demand easing up post-COVID, we decided to streamline the process and make it more accessible for everyone. Once you’ve registered for the race, head on over to our team fundraising page to sign up and get ready to ignite some friendly competition while supporting an incredible cause!
After you join, you’ll get to virtually train with and support fellow teammates while also encouraging your friends and families to show their support for the Military and Veteran community by donating to your campaign! In addition, we have some great reward items as you reach fundraising milestones:
- $200 – SA water bottle
- $500 – SA MCM running shirt
- $1000 – $50 Amazon Gift Card
- Highest fundraiser – Tickets on Spirit Airlines to and from the 2024 MCM (from anywhere Spirit flies)
We’ve got a pretty awesome design for this year’s shirt too! This is just an early draft of the design, so it may change slightly between now and race time… but we think it’s pretty great!
How to fundraise
Once you’ve registered for the race and joined the fundraising team, it’s time to get to work. Here are some fundraising ideas to help you get started.
- Post about your fundraiser on social media and ask for donations to support your endeavor
- Tell your employer you’re running to fundraise for Soldiers’ Angels. You’d be surprised how they might support you!
- Text/email friends and family to ask for support
- Set up fun challenges on your page and promise to do something wild when you reach certain benchmarks (for example, you’ll do your next long run in a tutu if you get to $500)
