Food Assistance: A Lifeline for Veterans and Military Families

In Charleston, South Carolina—one of the six cities where Soldiers’ Angels hosts a monthly food distribution—Veterans and Military families are receiving crucial food assistance. As food insecurity continues to rise within the Military-connected community, these events serve as an essential resource for those in need. The monthly distribution takes place at the Elks Lodge, where approximately 200 Service Members and Veterans receive vital food assistance.

Recently, ABC 4 News covered the event, further showcasing the program’s impact and the essential role community support plays in ensuring that no Veteran goes hungry. Watch the entire segment below or click here to visit their website for the full article:

Community Collaboration

Soldiers' Angels relies on the support from the community and volunteers to run the monthly food distribution events.

What makes this effort so impactful is the collaboration between Soldiers’ Angels, local organizations, and volunteers. Coastal Community Church has become a regular partner, dedicating volunteer time and resources each month to ensure the success of the food distribution. This month, the event was sponsored by Advanced Technology Institute (ATI) with additional volunteers from Rev Federal Credit Union and the Elks Lodge also stepping in to help distribute food and provide much-needed support to those attending.

With increasing inflation and economic strain, many Military families and Veterans face financial hardships. Food distributions like this help alleviate some of that burden. Soldiers’ Angels works closely with the VA and local communities to identify those most in need and ensure they receive the necessary resources.

Why These Food Distributions Matter

The importance of these events cannot be overstated. For many of the Veterans and Military families in attendance, the food they receive goes a long way in sustaining their households. These events provide not only food but also a sense of community and reassurance that they are not forgotten.

As the need for support continues to grow, the partnership between Soldiers’ Angels and community organizations will remain essential in ensuring that no Veteran or Military family goes without. The dedication of volunteers, coupled with generous donations from partners like ATI, makes it all possible.

How You Can Get Involved

Together, we can continue to serve those who have served our country.

Sponsors Needed!

As we approach the new year, we urgently need sponsors across the country to ensure Soldiers’ Angels has the resources to continue delivering critical food assistance. Rising food costs and limited availability of essential items, such as proteins, make it increasingly challenging to support and source these vital events. With sponsorships starting at just $3,000, you can provide food for an entire event.

Sponsorships present an excellent opportunity for companies to engage their employees in meaningful volunteer experiences. Sponsors enjoy the unique chance to bring employee volunteers, allowing them to see firsthand how they can directly impact the lives of military-connected families.
