USAA’s Mission to Support Deployed Service Members
December 10, 2024
This holiday season, USAA employees united to make a difference, packing 14,000 holiday stockings for deployed Service Members and Veterans. Among these, 6,500 stockings were prepared in San Antonio, TX. Around 600 employee volunteers participated at USAA’s home office, while another 300 participated in their bank lobby. This remarkable effort was driven by a shared sense of purpose and gratitude for the sacrifices made by members of the Military. For many participants, the initiative held a personal significance. Watch the video below for a glimpse into USAA’s mission to support.
A Personal Connection
Glenda, a Veteran and Military spouse, shared her experiences from deployments in 2006 and 2008. She described how she wrote to organizations like Soldiers’ Angels, “to inspire my troops and motivate them and keep their morale up during the year.” For Service Members, receiving holiday stockings was an important part of maintaining morale. Reminding the troops that they were not forgotten during the holiday season.
The Power of Community
USAA employee volunteers expressed similar sentiments about the impact of their efforts. Knowing that someone cares enough to send a stocking filled with goodies not only brings smiles but also lifts spirits. Employees were eager to participate, filling the slots for this event in just 48 hours. “Our mission is to serve those who serve, so anytime that we can do a volunteer event that gives back to the troops, they are all in” Glenda noted.
For another, Grant Witcher, the act of giving back to the Military community is a natural extension of their gratitude. Witcher comments “being a Veteran myself of 21 years I know what it is to serve in the Military community. I know what our troops sacrifice.” Witcher believes “These are just things that we should be doing for our troops.”
Join the Efforts
While USAA’s team has made a significant impact, the need continues. Many Service Members spend the holidays far from family, often without the comforts of home. You can make a difference by joining Soldiers’ Angels to support deployed Service Members and Veterans through care packages, holiday stockings, and more. Whether donating time, money, or resources, your contribution can bring a smile to a Service Member or Veterans face when they need it most.
