These four-legged heroes, often overlooked but never underestimated, play an indispensable role in safeguarding the lives of both Military members and civilians. Far more than mere companions, they are considered Service Members, embodying loyalty, bravery, and an unwavering commitment to duty.

Military Working Dogs have a storied history, dating back centuries to ancient civilizations where they were employed for tasks ranging from sentry duty to reconnaissance. Today, their roles have expanded to include explosives detection, patrol work, search and rescue operations, and even specialized tasks such as detecting narcotics or tracking down adversaries. Their keen senses, agility, and unyielding dedication make them invaluable assets.

As full-fledged Service Members within the Armed Forces, Military Working Dogs undergo rigorous training, often alongside their human counterparts, to develop necessary skills. Once deployed, they form an inseparable bond with their handlers, forging a relationship built on trust and mutual reliance.

It’s important to recognize that these canine warriors are not mere tools of war; they are sentient beings capable of experiencing fear, pain, and joy. Despite the dangers they face, they willingly put themselves in harm’s way to protect their comrades-in-arms. Their loyalty knows no bounds, and their courage in the face of adversity serves as an inspiration to all who witness their actions.

This is why Soldiers’ Angels holds a special campaign for Military Working Dogs during Military Appreciation Month. While it falls during National Pet Week, we know that these heroes are not pets, they are valued members of our Armed Forces.

Support Military Working Dogs

From May 5-11, we are collecting care package items for these four legged heroes. Care package items include dog treats, large bowls for food/water, strong toys for power chewers, grooming tools, poop bags, and other K-9 essentials. Items can be purchased and shipped to our office OR you can order directly from our Amazon Wishlist. Additionally, we’re collecting donations to help cover the overseas shipping costs. It costs about $25 to send one care package— so every donation helps!

Military Working Dogs are much more than just animals trained for specific tasks; they provide companionship and comfort to service members stationed far from home, offering a sense of normalcy amidst the chaos of deployment. Their presence can have a positive impact on morale, boosting the spirits of those they serve alongside.
