How to Volunteer In Person with Soldiers’ Angels
March 26, 2026
There’s something powerful about showing up. Whether it’s handing a cup of coffee to a Veteran, packing a care package, or helping distribute food to Military and Veteran families, in-person volunteering with Soldiers’ Angels creates meaningful, face-to-face impact in communities across the country.
If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and serve, here’s how to get started—and where you can make a difference.
Food Distributions and Food Pantries
Food insecurity affects many Military and Veteran families, and Soldiers’ Angels Military and Veteran Food Distributions and pantries are a great place to start! Food Distributions are large-scale events that happen monthly. These drive-through events provide fresh produce, meats, and pantry items to Service Members and Veterans in need. Hosted in Atlanta, Charleston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Orlando, San Antonio, and Washington, D.C., these distributions serve hundreds of families at each event, ensuring access to nutritious food in a dignified, efficient way.

As a volunteer, you’ll play a hands-on role in making these events successful. These events are hands-on and high-impact. Volunteers help unload food, organize items, and distribute groceries directly to families—often serving hundreds in just a few hours. Opportunities include:
- Packing bags with fresh food and pantry items
- Directing traffic to keep the line moving smoothly
- Assisting with event setup and breakdown
- Loading groceries into vehicles
- Greeting Veterans and providing a warm, welcoming experience
Soldiers’ Angels also supports Service Members and Veterans through its Food Pantry programs, which operate weekly or twice monthly, depending on the location. These programs are designed to provide consistent, reliable access to fresh, healthy groceries for Service Members, Veterans, and their families.
Current locations include Charlotte/Salisbury, Detroit, and San Antonio, with additional sites launching soon in Atlanta, Dallas, and West Palm Beach. These events are intentionally designed to create a welcoming, community-centered experience. Upon arrival, participants are paired with a volunteer who serves as a personal shopper, allowing families to select the foods that best meet their needs, preferences, and dietary restrictions—rather than receiving a pre-packed bag.

If you are not currently an Angel volunteer and would like to help with a food distribution or food pantry, you can visit our website here to get started. From there, select Volunteer and complete the form. Once submitted, you’ll be connected with opportunities to assist at upcoming events in your area.
Volunteering at VA Hospitals
From VA hospitals to local community gatherings, Soldiers’ Angels offers a wide range of in-person opportunities to connect with and support Service Members and Veterans. Throughout the year, Soldiers’ Angels volunteers bring VA hospitals to life with activities that uplift and engage Veteran patients. Across the country, volunteers host coffee cart events, organize BINGO games, distribute comfort items, and spend time visiting with patients one-on-one.

You might find yourself:
- Serving coffee, snacks, and treats from a mobile cart or lobby table
- Hosting or assisting with luncheons, dinners, or even ice cream socials
- Visiting with Veteran patients—listening to stories, offering companionship, or simply sitting together
- Distributing items like blankets, hygiene kits, books, or holiday gifts
- Supporting special events like holiday celebrations, talent shows, or themed activities
In some locations, volunteers also help create unique experiences, such as breakfast socials and pizza parties, Valentine’s Day celebrations, comedy nights, and giveaway events filled with small comforts that make a big impact.

If you are already an Angel, you can find additional in-person opportunities in the Angel Portal. On the portal homepage, look for the section labeled Community Opportunities. This section contains links to our SignUpGenius page.
Volunteer at the Warehouse
Located at Soldiers’ Angels Headquarters in San Antonio, the warehouse is the hub of many of our programs—where donations are sorted, packed, and prepared for Service Members, Veterans, and their families. Volunteering here means working alongside our team to support shipments and national collection campaigns, helping turn donated items into meaningful care packages and resources.

As a warehouse volunteer, you may:
- Sort and organize donated items
- Pack care packages and kits
- Prepare and label boxes for shipment
- Support collection campaigns
- Assist with inventory and event prep
It’s a hands-on, flexible way to make a direct impact behind the scenes.
Show Up. Make an Impact.
In-person volunteering is about more than just giving time—it’s about building connection, strengthening community, and reminding Service Members and Veterans that they are seen, supported, and appreciated.
Whether you’re distributing food, sharing a meal, or packing a box with care, every moment you give makes a difference.
