Cookies, Care, and Connection: Chaplains Reflect on Ministry with Soldiers’ Angels Support
July 29, 2025
Each year on July 29, the United States Army marks the anniversary of the Army Chaplain Corps—celebrating the legacy, sacrifice, and spiritual strength of those who serve as spiritual leaders and moral anchors within the Military. Founded in 1775, just days after the Continental Army was established, the Chaplain Corps has stood beside Service Members through every battle, every hardship, and every triumph.
At Soldiers’ Angels, we’re honored to support these quiet heroes—not only as religious leaders, but as trusted confidants, crisis counselors, morale builders, and unwavering presences in some of the most challenging environments imaginable. While their ministry may be shaped by faith, their mission is defined by service—to all.
As Chaplain Wells explains:
“We as chaplains are pastors to some, but chaplains for all.”
That simple phrase captures the heart of the Chaplain Corps: inclusion, compassion, and commitment to every Military member under their care—regardless of faith or background.
A Call to Serve—God, Country, and the Warriors Who Defend It
We had the opportunity to interview one of the Chaplains we serve, Chaplain Wells, to learn more about his work and what led him to pursue it. Here’s our interview with him.
What led you to become a Chaplain?
“Call of God to serve God and country. I strive to support those who defend our country and routinely put their lives at risk.”
What are some of the ways you support Service Members in your unit?
“By providing religious worship and rites, pastoral care, visiting units in their work centers, counseling, advising leaders on morale and spiritual care. We as chaplains are pastors to some, but chaplains for all.”
How has Soldiers’ Angels supported your work?
“By providing freezer pops to brighten a worker on the flightline, where they work in direct sunlight in temperatures that exceed 110°F. These gifts, along with others, bring joy to a place where the days are long and hot. The snacks and necessary items are hard and challenging to acquire, but the children’s pictures bring smiles to even the hardest of warriors. Many are hung in the most out-of-reach places.
The support that Soldier’s Angels provides gives Chaplains an avenue to speak to Military members where they are working and to build relationships. Warriors are more likely to seek help from someone they know and feel comfortable with. These items, provided by Soldiers’ Angels, break down barriers and allow relationships to form, so that in times of crisis, hardened warriors are more likely to seek help.”
Cookies, Camaraderie, and Care in the Field
Another chaplain, serving hundreds of Service Members in a remote location, recently received a Soldiers’ Angels care package filled with cookies and summer decorations. We heard back immediately from the unit sergeant, who was full of excitement for the care packages.
“The past week and a half have been tough for us; however, the care packages you sent have been a great help. The chow hall has been closed. So we are eating MREs and all the snacks and food that were sent in the care packages. We are running low. We got seven care packages from Soldiers’ Angels right before everything started happening. Thank you so, so, so much. We hope the mail center will be open by the end of the week.”

The Chaplain for that unit serves over 200 Service Members. They used the decorations to create a festive area for Service Members to grab a snack and relax. The homemade cookies were a favorite among Service Members (as you can see in the photos).
“There is one photo I took of a soldier eating a cookie. We received homemade cookies. We have over 200 soldiers, and they are all thankful. They have come to the special staff tent where the Chaplain and I are located to grab a snack or food or to relax.”
Supporting Those Who Support Our Troops
At Soldiers’ Angels, we know that behind every formation is a chaplain walking quietly among them—ready to offer a prayer, lend an ear, or bring a moment of peace when it’s needed most. That’s why we are committed to supporting chaplains as they support our nation’s Service Members and Veterans.
Whether it’s freezer pops on the flightline or a taste of home in a field tent halfway around the world, our shared mission remains the same: to care for those who serve. Want to get involved supporting Service Members and chaplains? Register as a volunteer here.
