Soldiers’ Angels Expands Food Assistance for Military & Veteran Families in Cincinnati

At Soldiers’ Angels, we are committed to addressing food insecurity among Service Members, Veterans, and their families. A RAND Corporation report found that more than 25 percent of active-duty Service Members experience food insecurity—nearly three times higher than civilian households. Additionally, a Bob Woodruff Foundation study revealed that while 64 percent of organizations serving Military families receive requests for food assistance, only 32 percent can meet the demand.

With rising food prices and increasing economic challenges, the need for food assistance among the Military community continues to grow. To help meet this demand, we are proud to announce Cincinnati as the newest site for our Military and Veteran Food Distribution. As the largest provider of food exclusively for Veterans, we provided food assistance to more than 49,000 Service Members and Veterans in 2024 alone.

“With inflation continuing to pressure our community, Soldiers’ Angels is fighting back by doubling our efforts to fight Military and Veteran hunger in 2025. This new Cincinnati food distribution site will provide vital support to Veterans and Service Members in the area and is one of many new initiatives we’ve created to combat food insecurity across the country.” – Amy Palmer, President and CEO, Soldiers’ Angels

Now in its tenth year, our Military and Veteran Food Distribution program offers food assistance in seven cities: Atlanta, Charleston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Orlando, and San Antonio. Later this year, we will open an additional location in Washington, D.C., further expanding our reach.

Strengthening Food Assistance in Cincinnati

The food distribution in Cincinnati is not new; The VA Medical Center has been offering food assistance since 2022. We are honored to step in and take over the program, injecting it with resources and Soldiers’ Angels love. Our goal is to:

  • Enhance the quality of food provided to Military-connected families
  • Improve distribution infrastructure to better serve those in need
  • Raise awareness about food insecurity within the Military-connected community

Since 2022, this program has provided food assistance for more than 4,600 Veteran households. By stepping in to support these efforts, we will ensure that even more Veterans and Military families receive the nutritious meals. Here are some photos from our first event, where we served 152 Veterans.

Help us grow that number by spreading the word! If you’re in the area and could use some assistance, or if you want to volunteer, learn more here.

Continuing Our Mission

At Soldiers’ Angels, our mission is to provide aid, comfort, and resources to the Military-connected community. One of the most critical areas of support we offer is food assistance. As food insecurity continues to rise, it’s become clear that we must expand our efforts in this area. In addition to growing our Military and Veteran Food Distribution program, we also operate a food pantry in Detroit with more food pantries coming soon. We offer other forms of food support—such as Canteen gift cards for Veterans in VA medical facilities and boxed lunches for homeless Veterans.

Through these initiatives, we remain dedicated to fighting hunger in the Military community. We invite you to join us in this mission by helping spread the word, volunteering, or supporting our efforts.
