Warmth, Love, and Quilts

Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church Joins Operation: Warm Winter to Support Veterans

As temperatures drop, the need to support our homeless Veterans rises. Operation: Warm Winter, a key initiative of Soldiers’ Angels, ensures that Veterans across the country have access to warm clothing and blankets to face the colder months. Recently, the quilting group from Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in San Antonio stepped up to help in a meaningful way—by donating handmade lap quilts and pillowcases to Veterans in need.

A Labor of Love from Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church

At the heart of this effort is Lauretta H., a longtime member of the Kaps 4 Karing sewing group which has supported Soldiers’ Angels many times in the past. Lauretta shared the mission of Soldiers’ Angels with her church quilting group, and together they decided to craft quilts for Veterans who could use the extra warmth and comfort. This dedicated group of women meets every other Tuesday to quilt, connect, and give back to their community.

Their latest donation includes 27 handmade lap quilts and 2 pillowcases, with 10 more quilts nearly completed and ready to be sent.

Compassion and Dedication to Helping Others

Before the quilts were donated, the congregation at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church gathered to offer their heartfelt support. During this gathering, the importance of giving back and helping others was a central theme. These quilts are not just handmade items—they represent the community’s care and dedication to our Veterans.

Ricki, a member of the quilting group, expressed that they would be honored to continue making quilts for Soldiers’ Angels. Their efforts align perfectly with the mission of Operation: Warm Winter—to provide our heroes with warmth and comfort during the coldest months of the year.

How These Quilts Will Help Veterans Through Operation: Warm Winter

These thoughtful lap quilts will now be included in Operation: Warm Winter, an initiative designed to support homeless Veterans by providing essential items during the winter season. For those living in shelters or without stable housing, a warm blanket can be a source of both physical comfort and emotional reassurance. These quilts serve as a reminder that the community cares deeply about the well-being of Veterans.

Through this partnership, the quilts will be distributed to Veterans in need across the country, making this winter a little more bearable for those who have given so much in service to our nation.
