What Are Veteran Mobile Food Distributions?
The Soldiers’ Angels Hunger Relief Program provides monthly food assistance to low-income, at-risk, and homeless veterans in six cities across the country: Atlanta, Georgia; Charleston, South Carolina; Denver, Colorado; Detroit, Michigan; Orlando, Florida; and San Antonio, Texas. Through Veteran Mobile Food Distribution events, veterans in-need can register to attend and receive food support for themselves and their families. Each event serves 200 veterans with approximately 75 pounds of quality produce, meat, and non-perishables. This amount of food could produce up to two weeks of meals for a family of four.
Soldiers’ Angels volunteers work to make the day of the event as easy as possible for attending veterans. Veterans show up at their predetermined time slot and get in line with their car. After being checked in, veterans drive through the event and volunteers load bags of groceries into the vehicles. No need for veterans to even get out of their cars. Veterans that do not have vehicles are able to walk or roll through the line. Volunteers load the groceries into carts, trolleys, or backpacks—whatever is the easiest way for the veteran to get their groceries home.
How to Receive Notifications About Upcoming Events?
Each month, a link to register for the event is emailed and texted to veterans in each market who are in need of supplemental food assistance. After you complete the instructions above, you should receive a confirmation message letting you know that you have successfully registered to receive text alerts. It will look like the below image, but mention the name of the city you registered for.
