Navy Veteran Receives Refurbished Car
October 6, 2024
In a heartwarming event highlighting the power of community support, Navy Veteran and cancer survivor Cathy Gaston received a refurbished car, a 2017 Ford Focus that will significantly help her in attending her VA appointments. This generous donation, thanks to Caliber Collision, Geico, and the National Auto Body Council’s Recycled Rides Program, is not only a much-needed form of transportation but also a symbol of hope and encouragement for Gaston as she navigates her health challenges.
A Special Day of Giving
The car giveaway took place with the support of several key spokespeople, including Mark Sims, Regional VP of Caliber Collision, Kelvin Thomas from Geico, Dan Gulley, VP of Enterprise Holdings, and Jana Evans, San Antonio Area Director here at Soldiers’ Angels. Their involvement underscores the collaborative efforts of various organizations coming together to make a difference in the lives of Veterans like Cathy.
A Car for Hope
For Cathy, the refurbished vehicle is more than just transportation; it represents freedom and independence during a challenging time. After discovering her cancer diagnosis in 2022, she faced numerous hurdles, including her car dying and the logistics of attending medical appointments and chemotherapy without transportation. The car will significantly alleviate some of the stress associated with transportation, allowing her to focus more on her health and recovery.
After reviewing Cathy’s application, the Soldiers’ Angels team knew right away that this car would make a profound difference in her life. That’s why they were eager to nominate her as the recipient and thrilled to find out she had been selected.
Cathy’s joy was palpable as she received the keys to her new car, complete with a sunroof—an added bonus that reflects the excitement of this new chapter in her life. It’s not just a vehicle; it’s a lifeline that will help her access essential healthcare services.
