From the Heart: Real Stories of Thanks
May 26, 2026
At Soldiers’ Angels, some of the most meaningful support happens in small moments. A box of groceries handed through a car window. A care package arriving overseas. A handwritten letter tucked inside a mailbox thousands of miles from home. For Service Members, Veterans, and Military Families, support often arrives during moments of uncertainty, loneliness, transition, or hardship.
Every card, letter, and message shared with Soldiers’ Angels tells a story about what support truly means to Service Members, Veterans, and Military Families. While volunteers may never fully see the impact of their time and kindness, these messages offer a glimpse into the lives they are helping change every single day.

More Than Just a Resource
For many Military and Veteran families, assistance is not just helpful. It is life-changing.
One Veteran family shared heartfelt feedback after being unable to attend a Military & Veteran Food Distribution in Denver earlier this year. Their words paint a powerful picture of how meaningful consistent support can be for Military and Veteran families facing difficult seasons:
“Our family truly depends on this food drive—it plays a big role in helping us keep food on the table and meet our basic needs. When we’re unable to attend, we genuinely feel the impact at home, and it can make things much more difficult for us. This program is more than just a resource—it brings us a sense of relief and stability during times that can feel uncertain.”
For volunteers, a food distribution event may last only a few hours. But for the families receiving support, the impact stretches far beyond that single day. It can mean fewer impossible choices between bills, gas, and groceries. It can mean one less burden weighing on a family already trying to stay afloat.
The Veteran’s message ended with a reminder that reaches far beyond one event:
“I just want you to know how deeply meaningful this support is to us and how grateful we are for it.”
At its core, this is what Soldiers’ Angels exists to do: provide aid, comfort, and resources to the Military and Veteran community in ways that are personal, compassionate, and real.
Messages From Across Miles
For deployed Service Members, the feeling of connection can become even more important. Being away from home for months at a time can be exhausting emotionally, especially during holidays, birthdays, and missed milestones with loved ones.
That is why letters and care packages matter so deeply. Several cards sent to Soldiers’ Angels expressed appreciation not just for the donated items themselves, but for the reminder that people back home are thinking about them. One group of Service Members shared:
“We appreciate your hard work, kindness, and generosity in putting together the care packages. Receiving these care packages is a good reminder of home.” and “Thank you for your continuing support…”

Another message came from the 143rd Military Police Detachment expressing appreciation during the holidays. The letter was signed by all and shared:
“We are so grateful to you for your kindness! We wish you best during this holiday season and a wonderful new year! Thank you for thinking of us!”
These messages reflect a feeling many Service Members and Veterans share. The appreciation and encouragement felt from knowing that someone took the time to show them they matter.
Inspired to Give Back
Support also has a way of inspiring entire families and communities to give back.
One especially heartfelt letter shared the story of a child who chose to turn their military-themed birthday celebration into an opportunity to support Service Members. He requested that the family use the celebration to collect items for Service Members overseas.
Acts of kindness like these reflect something deeply important about Soldiers’ Angels’ mission. Support is never just about the item being donated. It is about creating human connections.

Every letter tells a slightly different story. But each one carries the same message: support matters. For volunteers, donors, and supporters, these stories of thanks are a reminder that even small acts of kindness can reach farther than they may ever realize.
