Food Distributions are Coming to Washington D.C.
May 1, 2025
At Soldiers’ Angels, we believe that no Service Member or Veteran should ever face food insecurity. That’s why we’re proud to announce the expansion of our Military and Veteran Food Distribution (MVFD) program to a new city: Washington, D.C.!
In partnership with Capital Area Food Bank and Blue Star Families, and with support from sponsors like Lockheed Martin, Soldiers’ Angels will bring its monthly Military and Veteran Food Distribution to Military-connected families across the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area. The inaugural distribution event will take place on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the Basilica of the National Shrine in Washington, D.C.
Registration will open in early June—Veterans and military-connected individuals in the DMV are encouraged to sign up for updates at SoldiersAngels.org/DC to be the first to know when registration becomes available!

Why Washington, D.C.?
Our Service Members and Veterans continue to face food insecurity at rates higher than the general population. In 2024 alone, Soldiers’ Angels provided over one million pounds of food to more than 49,000 Military and Veteran families across the country—making us the largest provider of food exclusively to Veterans nationwide.
Now, with the addition of Washington, D.C., we will have regular Military and Veteran Food Distribution in eight major U.S. cities: Atlanta, Charleston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Orlando, San Antonio, and now Washington, D.C.
“As our Veterans and Service Members continue to battle food insecurity at a disproportionate rate, Soldiers’ Angels is ramping up our efforts in 2025 to support Military-connected families who need a helping hand. We’re proud to collaborate with Capital Area Food Bank, Blue Star Families, and Lockheed Martin to ensure that no one who served our country goes hungry.” – Amy Palmer, U.S. Air Force Veteran and Soldiers’ Angels President and CEO
Community Collaboration
Our expansion into D.C. wouldn’t be possible without key partnerships:
Capital Area Food Bank, the region’s leading hunger relief organization, will help supply fresh food and staples to distribute.
“Members of the Military – both past and present – have dedicated their lives to serving others, so it’s only right that when they need help, we’re there to serve them in return. We’re honored to be partnering with Soldiers’ Angels to ensure that military members, veterans, and their families in the Greater Washington region are able to access the nutritious food they need to thrive today and into the future.” – Radha Muthiah, president and CEO of the Capital Area Food Bank
Blue Star Families, the nation’s largest Military and Veteran family support organization, will help spread the word throughout the local Military community.
“Through our Nourish the Service program, we’re working to ensure that no Military family has to face food insecurity alone. We’re proud to help launch this effort in Washington, D.C., and to make sure our heroes and their loved ones feel seen and supported.” – Kathy Roth-Douquet, CEO of Blue Star Families
We are also deeply grateful to Lockheed Martin, headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, for sponsoring the June food distribution event.
Continuing the Mission
Now entering its tenth year, the Soldiers’ Angels Military and Veteran Food Distribution program continues to expand to meet the growing needs of our Service Members and Veterans. Along with regular monthly distributions, we also support food assistance through:
- A food pantry for Veterans in Detroit
- Boxed lunches for homeless Veterans and the Military community
- Canteen gift cards for Veterans in VA Medical Centers
- Special food distribution events in partnership with groups like Kroger Racing, with more locations (Charlotte, N.C. and Ft. Worth, Texas) on the horizon for 2025!
