Detroit Food Distribution to Discontinue at the end of February 2024

Today we’re announcing that the Soldiers’ Angels Detroit Military and Veteran Food Distribution (MVFD) program will close in early 2024. The final food distribution will occur on February 8, 2024.

After 8 years of serving Detroit-area Veteran and military families in need of supplemental food support, we made this difficult decision to shut down the event due to increased operational costs, inconsistent local funding, and demand.

Each food distribution site is supported through operational funds provided by local sponsors. Despite the best efforts of our team, Detroit’s MFVD has not found a consistent sponsorship base to continue operations.

During this transition period, our singular focus is ensuring that all those who have relied on supplemental food support from Soldiers’ Angels find local nutritional resources. To that end, we will continue to build a list of alternative food resources on this page and we will also distribute pamphlets during upcoming food distributions to support families while they transition.

We also encourage eligible families to sign up for federal nutrition programs, including the SNAP program, which is historically underutilized by military-connected families.

We would like to thank the corporate and nonprofit partners who have generously funded and supported the Detroit event in the past. We also want to thank our many longstanding Angel volunteers, without whom, none of this would have been possible. We appreciate your commitment and efforts and look forward to recognizing your service. Your welcoming faces have provided comfort to all those who have sought out a helping hand. We cannot thank you enough for serving on the front lines to combat hunger in your community, and we hope you will continue your volunteer work with Soldiers’ Angels.
