Amy Palmer joined Soldiers’ Angels as President & CEO in October 2013, when the organization was on the verge of closing its doors. In less than two years, Amy led a remarkable turnaround, transforming the organization from near bankruptcy into a stable and highly respected national Military and Veteran nonprofit.
Under Amy’s visionary leadership, Soldiers’ Angels has become one of the highest-rated nonprofit organizations in the country. The organization has earned top honors, including a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, recognition as a Top-Rated Nonprofit by GreatNonprofits, and the Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid, the highest level of recognition from the world’s largest source of nonprofit information. With an efficiency rating of 94.5%, Soldiers’ Angels has served over 7.5 million Service Members, Veterans, and their families since its inception.
Amy’s deep commitment to serving low-income and homeless Veterans has been the driving force behind the expansion of Soldiers’ Angels’ services. Under her guidance, the organization now provides monthly food distributions to Veterans in seven cities across the United States, delivers essential hygiene items to hospitalized Veterans, and supports homeless Veterans with housing kits as they transition into subsidized housing. Additionally, Soldiers’ Angels is one of the few post-9/11 charities with a seat on the Veteran Affairs National Advisory Council, where Amy provides valuable input on services and support at VA Hospitals nationwide.
Throughout her tenure in the nonprofit sector, Amy has raised over $267 million for Military and Veteran charities. She is a sought-after speaker on topics such as board governance, leadership, nonprofit management, fundraising, and the needs of Military families in times of war. Her dedication to service has earned her numerous accolades, including a feature on Lifetime Channel’s “Remarkable Women,” the 2012 Caring Award alongside the Dalai Lama, the 2017 Nonprofit CEO of the Year by the San Antonio Business Journal, and the prestigious Freedom Award from the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. Most recently, in July 2021, Amy received the Leadership Award at the 6th Annual Veterans Awards hosted by the Academy of United States Veterans.
A proud U.S. Air Force Veteran, Amy was medically discharged due to an injury sustained while on active duty. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management, a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Michigan State University and the Society of Nonprofit Organizations, and is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Philanthropy.
Amy Palmer’s unwavering dedication and leadership continue to make a profound impact on the lives of Veterans and their families, ensuring they receive the care and support they deserve.
