NEWPORT NEWS—1700 Brewing will release its special Homefront IPA to benefit Soldiers’ Angels on Saturday, June 4 during their 101 Thirsty Days of Summer Kick-off Bash.
Soldiers’ Angels is a national nonprofit founded in 2003 by the family of General George Patton. Through its global network of thousands of volunteers, it fulfills its mission of providing aid, comfort, and resources to the military, veterans, and their families through a variety of ways.
Through their Hops for Heroes program, Soldiers’ Angels reached out to independent breweries across the nation, inviting them to create their own special Homefront IPA as a fun and unique way to raise funds and honor U.S. service members, veterans, and their families. Hops for Heroes is expected to run from Memorial Day to Veterans Day. Using supplies donated by corporate sponsors and partners, breweries that sign on commit to donating all net proceeds from tap room and packaged beer sales of Homefront IPA to Soldiers’ Angels.
“We are just honored to be chosen by Soldiers’ Angels to participate in the Hops for Heroes campaign this year,” said Kevin Mead, co-operating owner of 1700 Brewing. “One of our founding principles as a brewery is to give back to the community and this is the perfect way to do it.”
Joining 1700 Brewing in this worthwhile endeavor at their own locations are Alamo Beer Company from San Antonio, TX; Caledonia Brewing from Dunedin, FL; Center of the Universe Brewing Company from Ashland, VA; Founders Brewing Company from Grand Rapids, MI; Karbach Brewing from Houston, TX; Kennay Farms Distilling from Rochelle, IL; Left Hand Brewing Company from Longmont, CO; Nine State Brewery from Inverness, FL; Brewery Ommegang from Cooperstown, NY; Roma Restaurant & Brewery from Willernie, MN; Palm Harbor Brewery from Palm Harbor, FL; and Steady Hand Beer Company from Atlanta, GA.
“The beer is aged on maple wood bats, which is something we’ve never done before,” said Billy Martin, one of the other operating owners at 1700 Brewing about their version of the Homefront IPA. “But we love to experiment with our recipes, and this certainly adds a unique flavor to the beer.”
The event on Saturday will feature live music, Ortega’s Street Tacos food truck, and plenty of beer. For details and updates, visit 1700 Brewing’s Facebook Page. For additional information on Hops for Heroes, visit their website. 1700 Brewing is located at 11838 Canon Blvd. #400 in Newport News.
