5 Ways We Spread Holiday Cheer at VA Hospitals

The holiday season is a special time at Soldiers’ Angels, and each year our volunteers bring joy, comfort, and connection to Veterans spending the holidays in VA hospitals. These simple acts of kindness remind every Veteran that they are appreciated and never forgotten. Here are five meaningful ways we spread holiday cheer in VA hospitals across the country.

Holiday Fun at Coffee Carts

There’s something about a warm cup of coffee that instantly feels like comfort—especially during the holidays. Our volunteer-run coffee carts bring cheer to the halls of VA hospitals year-round, with hot drinks, treats, and friendly conversation. The holidays are extra special, though, adding hot chocolate, holiday cheer, and other goodies. Whether it’s a peppermint mocha or a simple cup of black coffee, these moments create connection and brighten the day for Veterans and staff alike.

Handing Out Holiday Stockings

Every year, we ask supporters to stuff holiday stockings for Veterans and Service Members. Through our Holiday Stockings for Heroes collection drive, we collect thousands of stockings and distribute them overseas and within VA Hospitals across the country. The real magic happens when our volunteers get to hand out thousands of stockings filled with candy, snacks, hygiene items, puzzles, and small gifts. For Veterans spending the holidays in the hospital, receiving a stocking is more than a gift, it’s a reminder that someone cares. Every stocking brings a smile, a sense of joy, and holiday cheer.

Holiday Themed Meals

Food brings people together, and our holiday luncheons and dinners do exactly that. Volunteers serve warm meals thanks to our partners and donors while sharing stories, laughter, and fellowship. For many Veterans, these luncheons are the highlight of the season, creating a sense of community during a time that can feel isolating.

Visits from Santa

Santa doesn’t forget our Veterans. Volunteers dress up in the classic red suit and bring festive spirit to the hospital halls. Santa’s visits spark joy, nostalgia, and plenty of photo opportunities. Whether handing out gifts or simply sharing a laugh, these moments create unforgettable holiday memories for Veterans and staff.

Heartfelt Patient Visits

Above all, the holidays are about connection. Our volunteers spend time with Veteran patients who may not have family close by—listening to stories, offering companionship, and reminding them how valued they are. These one-on-one visits are powerful acts of kindness that make a lasting impact during the holiday season.

From coffee carts to Santa sightings, every effort is rooted in our mission: ensuring no Veteran feels alone, especially during the holidays. Thanks to our incredible volunteers and generous supporters, Soldiers’ Angels continues to bring warmth, comfort, and joy to those who have served our country.
