Registration Now Open: Soldiers’ Angels, Kroger and the Kroger Racing Partners Host Military & Veteran Food Distribution in Daytona Beach

This special one-time event will feed hundreds of Veterans, Service Members, and Military families ahead of NASCAR’s DAYTONA 500

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – With one out of every four active-duty Military families experiencing food insecurity, the national nonprofit Soldiers’ Angels today opened registration for its Military and Veteran Food Distribution in Daytona Beach, taking place before the DAYTONA 500. Soldiers’ Angels food distribution events occur monthly in Atlanta, Charleston, Dallas, Denver, Orlando, and San Antonio, but will expand to Daytona Beach for this one-time event.

“We’re excited to partner once again with Kroger Racing as part of our ongoing fight against Veteran and Military food insecurity,” said Soldiers’ Angels President and CEO Amy Palmer. “As the sports world turns its attention to Florida for this iconic NASCAR event, we look forward to supporting the nutritional needs of Daytona Beach’s Military-connected community, ensuring they feel loved and appreciated for their sacrifices to our Nation.”

Donations from Kroger as well as several of the racing partners such as Bimbo Bakeries, Coca Cola, CELSIUS, Danone, General Mills, and Kraft/Oscar Mayer are intended to help these men and women with their food insecurity issues.

NASCAR’s largest race of the season, the DAYTONA 500 will take place on Sunday, February 16 and Kroger Racing will be participating in the event with their new race team partner, RFK Racing. Drivers Chris Buescher and Ryan Preece will join Soldiers’ Angels at the event to assist in the food drive and meet with those veterans in attendance.

As evidenced in a recent RAND Corporation report, Veterans are not the only military-connected people in need of support. Researchers determined that one in four active-duty Service Members reported as food insecure, compared to 9% of civilians. Additionally, a recent Bob Woodruff Foundation report found food assistance was a major need for the military-connected community with 64% of respondents reporting most or almost all of their clients request food assistance, but only 32% are able to fulfill those needs.

The organization’s Military and Veteran Food Distribution program started in 2015 at the nonprofit’s headquarters in San Antonio. Each event provides pre-registered Veteran and Military-connected families with, on average, 75 lbs. of groceries.
