PTRP Spring Plant 2025
July 1, 2025

At the Polytrauma Transitional Rehabilitation Program (PTRP) in San Antonio, the healing garden continues to flourish. This spring, the garden once again became a place where hands got dirty, hearts felt lighter, and teamwork made a visible difference.
A Time of Planting, Purpose, and Teamwork
This May, volunteers gathered for a special spring planting. Not in one big event but throughout several weekends. Heavy rain showers made it difficult to plan a single planting day; instead of giving up, volunteers came out every sunny day we got. Their steady presence showed just how deeply this space matters. The garden isn’t just a place to grow herbs or flowers; it’s a place where healing happens. And that understanding brought people back again and again.

Over the weekends, the team:
- Deadheaded roses to spark fresh blooms.
- Trimmed plants that blocked the paths.
- Pulled weeds that flourished with all the rain.
- Gently guided climbing plants along their supports.
- Moved stones to protect and support younger plants.
- Edged the front garden beds for a refreshed look.
- Planted more herbs to expand the healing variety.
The rain brought challenges, but it also nourished the garden—and reminded us of the patience that growth requires. Now, there are plans to install additional rain barrels and begin composting, so this natural gift can keep giving all season long.
Thank You
Leading the way was Pat Jopling, whose kindness, knowledge, and calm presence kept everyone grounded and focused. Pat created a space where volunteers felt welcome, safe, and connected, qualities that mirror the garden itself.
We are so grateful to every volunteer who gave their time and energy helping with the spring plant. The effort you shared is already blooming, not just in the soil, but in the hearts of those who walk these garden paths every day. Thank you for helping this healing space grow.
