Soldiers' Angels is proud to welcome Miss America Rhode Island to the Angel team!
Kelsey Fournier was crowned Miss Rhode Island 2012 at the end of May and will be competing for Miss America in January 2013. Her official platform is childhood obesity, but she has also chosen to use the influence of her position to encourage others to join her in troop support activities.
A patriotic American, Kelsey has long supported the troops in a variety of ways. She spent Christmas 2010 in Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Qatar as a New England Patriots Cheerleader entertaining the troops with the Armed Forces Entertainment Overseas Tour.
It was the Tour that first introduced Kelsey to Soldiers' Angels. In Afghanistan, Kelsey met then-Soldier (and Soldiers' Angels staff member-to-be) Kelli Harmon, who was working with the MWR facility in Northern Afghanistan. They soon became friends, and Kelli told Kelsey about all the ways that Soldiers' Angels was helping the MWR facility. It made an impression on her. "I liked everything about the organization and what they do bring a piece of home to troops overseas," Kelsey says.
When Kelsey became Miss Rhode Island, she remembered Soldiers' Angels and reached out to Kelli to make contact. For now, Kelsey will focus on Rhode Island-based Angel activities, but plans to make Soldiers' Angels part of her national presence if she wins Miss America next year.
We're thrilled to have Kelsey Fournier supporting the troops with Soldiers' Angels! Congratulations for the Rhode Island win, and best of luck for "the big one" in 2013!
