Honoring Gold Star Mother's Day

Highlight image

Did you know that there are actually two Mother’s Days in the United States? The first one is celebrated in May – the standard Mother’s Day we all celebrate. But the second Mother’s Day is one many Americans are not aware of. It’s called Gold Star Mother’s Day and it is observed on the last Sunday of September each year. Gold Star Mother’s Day is a day for people to recognize and honor those who have lost a son or daughter while serving the United States Armed Forces.

The holiday is celebrated by American Gold Star Mothers, a Veterans service organization of mothers who have lost a son or daughter in the service of our country.

Read our blog here that highlights a Gold Star family and talks about how the Soldiers’ Angels Living Legends team helps families who endure a military loss.

In recent weeks, thousands of service members have been rapidly deployed to the Middle East. Many of them received their orders with just a few short days before they had to board a plane into the unknown and now they face months of deployment amid increasing tensions in the region. Together, we can show these brave men and women that America is behind them, no matter what may come next. Soldiers' Angels is collecting care package items and cash donations as a part of the new #GoCamo Care Package Collection Campaign. The care packages will support service members deployed all across the Middle East and let them all know that America supports them! Please show your support for our brave men and women today and #GoCamo by hosting a collection drive, shopping for needed items, or making a monetary donation to help cover the cost of shipping the care packages. Learn more about Soldiers' Angels #GoCamo here.

Valentines for Veterans

Every year we receive thousands of Valentine’s Day cards addressed to service members and veterans. Sadly, since the cost to distribute these cards is so high, we are not able to provide enough funding to get these cards to our military and veteran heroes so they can feel the love. But this year you can help us spread the love! All you need to do is include $1 per Valentine you send! This will help us cover the cost of packing & mailing boxes of Valentine’s Day cards to deployed troops overseas & to VA Hospitals! Mail your cards & $1 per card to: Soldiers’ Angels 2895 NE Loop 410, Suite 107, San Antonio, Texas 78218. Learn more about Soldiers' Angels Valentines for Veterans.

Message of Support

As uncertainty mounts around the current situation in the Middle East and deployments continue to affect our troops and families, Soldiers' Angels President and CEO has an important message to all military families and those who are willing to step up and support them:

"For the past seventeen years, it has been the mission of Soldiers' Angels to support our troops and their families— and right now is no different. Politics aside, there is stress being felt by military families whose futures are unclear. To those families, please know we are with you during this time, and we are here to provide aid and comfort however we can. This is why we exist. Please keep all those heading into harm's way in your thoughts. May No Soldier Go Unloved." - Amy Palmer, President & CEO of Soldiers' Angels

Supporting Generations

We love receiving thank you messages on Facebook and our website. The messages vary from simple thank you's to longer sentiments about what the support meant to them. Every once in a while we hear stories that touch us so deeply that we just have to know more. This happened recently when Jerik reached out to say thanks for the support we were giving him during his current deployment to the Middle East and that we also supported his father years ago during his deployment to Afghanistan! Here's their story.
