Run for Remembrance
Running in Honor of the Fallen and the Fighting
Soldiers’ Angels is hosting two Runs for Remembrance this September 10-11, 2011 to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, those who have died fighting since then, and those who continue to fight for our freedom. All funds raised from the events will go to the work of Soldiers’ Angels in support of military personnel, veterans and military families. If you are not a runner, you are invited volunteer to help a race and to donate in honor of the runners or an American hero of your choice.
In San Antonio, home of the Soldiers’ Angels Support Center, the Run for Remembrance takes the form of a relay race and ultra-marathon. Live music and fun precede a nighttime run at Olmos Basin Park in San Antonio. Teams made up of nine runners will run a relay race (1 mile loop) for 9 hours and 11 minutes, or a single ultra-marathoner will run the duration. The event ends in the morning and will be followed by an awards ceremony and a San Antonio-style breakfast with fun, patriotic music, and a Color Guard presenting our ensign for the National Anthem. Post-race activities will also include moments of silence to remember and honor our fellow Americans.
- Team Sponsors: All Teams are asked to raise $1000 through pledges from their own solicited sponsors. The Team with the highest total raised will win the Event Grand Prize. Pledge forms and instructions here. Click for corporate sponsorship information.
- Lodging: Team camping spots will assigned to each team for the event at the park and hotel discounts will be announced soon.
- Food & Drinks: Water and simple snacks will be available for all participants during the race and there will be a complimentary breakfast during the post-race activities. Participants are encouraged to bring sports drinks and other foods for energy and hydration.
- Entertainment: Throughout the event we will have music and games to entertain all resting runners and supporters.
-
Additional Notes: Groups with less than 9 runners can contact Bill Gardner at info@runintexas for assistance with arranging a full team of 9. Individuals without a Team can sign up as an individual at the sign me up link below.
