The Donald MacKay Merit Award

Supporting Startups Who Support the Troops

The Donald MacKay Merit Award was created in honor of a beloved Soldiers' Angels board member who had to step down due to the toll cancer was taking on him.  It is awarded to grassroots military support organizations who are in the initial stages of development, with the hope that it will provide seed money to produce a vital and successful enterprise.  Organizations must be 501(c)(3) in order to receive a MacKay award, which ranges from $1,000 to $7,000.

To nominate a start-up charitable organization at any time, please complete the form below as completely as possible.

Previous Winners

2008 - Our Military Kids, Inc., which provides grants for enrichment (i.e. art, sports, etc.) activities and tutoring for children of deployed National Guard or Reserve personnel to help them cope with parental separation or injury recovery.

Dear Patti,

Just want to let you know how much I appreciated your hospitality and the opportunity to learn more about all the wonderful work Soldiers' Angels is doing. I did not fully grasp all the services your fine organization was providing our service members. You and your staff of angels are doing incredible work.

I am humbled to receive the first Donald MacKay Merit Award. I appreciate the selection of Our Military Kids to be the recipient of the $5,000 grant and can assure you Soldiers' Angels will be making a difference in yet another 10 to 15 children's lives. Your good works continue to grow.

All my best for continued success,

Linda
