Job Description	Spirit of America, http://www.spiritofamerica.net seeks an external relations specialist to lead our outreach and communication efforts. The Outreach Director will be responsible for outreach to: * U.S. troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa to increase level of project requests * Other nonprofit organizations to identify areas of collaboration. * Bloggers and grassroots media to increase public awareness of Spirit of America. * Volunteers. * New donors. This is a very hands-on role within our small, hard-working organization. We're looking for someone with meaningful experience in communications and external relations who can create and implement strategies to expand Spirit of America's presence within targeted groups. An energetic, extroverted, exceptional communicator (writing and speaking) who is self-motivated and can work independently is ideal. Someone with knowledge of and experience with the U.S. military is especially desirable. The candidate should think creatively about how others can help and have an orientation to support and empower volunteers. The candidate should be able to do a lot with a little and be oriented to low/no-cost guerrilla and viral marketing. We prefer the Director of Outreach be based in Los Angeles or Washington, DC but we're flexible to accommodate the right person. Compensation is based on experience and qualifications. About Spirit of America Based in Los Angeles, Spirit of America's mission is to help Americans serving abroad assist people in need. We respond to requests from American military and civilian personnel in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa for items that will help local people. Since 2003 we have provided everything from sandals and soccer balls to sewing machines and irrigation equipment at the request of American soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines. Spirit of America is a 501c3 nonprofit supported solely through private-sector contributions. We do not receive funding from the government or military. Interested?
