Thank Yous and Angel Stories

Soldiers' Angels is always thrilled to hear from our heroes and those we are working so hard to support and encourage.  Most of our Team and Project pages include Thank Yous, but we've collected a few here, too.  You can also scroll down to read Angels' stories about their experiences adopting and supporting America's service members.  To leave your own testimonial or thank you, please click here.

Thank Yous

I received the boxes of cards a couple of days a go and I cannot even begin to tell you how extremely delighted and excited the soldiers are to have them to send home.  The selection that we have at the PX is paltry at best. Plus plus their cards don't really cover the ackward feelings or truly heartfelt emotions that (I feel ) Hallmark has always been able to convey.  Once again Soldiers' Angels has come through for us in a spectacular way, and we feel truly cared for and cherished. Thank you so much. - SGT Sandra Shane

I just wanted to say thank you for the mugs!  We are on a NATO base with many other nationalities, and our American National Support Element has been handing out the travel coffee mugs with your logo on them.  They are a huge hit!  Whoever thought to send coffee mugs is a genius, and I just wanted to let you know that we truly appreciate your kind gift and all the things you are doing for us. - Lieutenant W. in Kabul, US Navy

Thank you for the package...I do not get a lot of packages here and that really helped out a lot.Thank you once again for everything you do for the soldiers that are over here...THANK YOU SO MUCH. - Sergeant S.

I would like to say thank you all for your unconditional support. This has been a blessing for me and many others. My wife wife and I look forward to signing up to adopt a soldier when I arrive back home. - Specialist E. in Iraq, February 2009

Thank you so much for the package!  I'm at WRAMC and it really lifted my spirits AND came in handy right away.  It means a lot, and from me and all the other soldiers, thank you! - Eric, patient at Water Reed

The box of hygiene items could not have come at a better time. We have a few guys out with the Iraqis in a joint security station. They do not have hygiene items available to them...Thank you again. All of the support we receive really does make our jobs as leaders easier. It significantly increases the morale of our Soldiers while bridging the gaps of support. - Captain B, 82nd Airborne

When I first sent you an email asking for coffee, I never imagined the tremendous response by your organization.  I want you to know that your efforts have had a definite impact in raising the morale of the Soldiers in my unit...It makes me proud to know that there are so many people like you that support the troops in this way.  I can't express the thanks that you and the people from Soldiers' Angels deserve. - SFC W., February 2009

Soldier’s Angels has been there for my men (and for me) during our darkest hours and in our moments of triumph.  You are all Angels in the truest sense. - Captain O. in Iraq, January 2009

Thanks for everything and all you did for us. It was truly a blessing and made our stay and job over here much easier in Iraq.  You all have been a blessing and a great inspiration to us, and we owe you so much. So we say thank you...for what you all do to make the soldiers' life much more enjoyable and show them that there are people out there that care about what we are doing here in Iraq.  Again, thanks for everything, from me and the soldiers here. - Donald, January 2009

I am overwhelmed with what you are doing for our deployed Soldiers and to my Soldiers.  Please send my deepest and sincere thanks to all your Angels for helping out these great warriors of ours...What you do saves lives and hope. - CSM Fidelito Ordonio

Truly, I am blessed to be serving our nation towards a cause I recognize on a daily basis that has a profound and positive impact on the nation of Afghanistan.  I appreciate the support of this program and all the volunteers who donate their time, money and effort towards making it a success - you truly have met your mark.  – CW3 Teeple, (Jan 2009)

Guys, you would not believe how much all of us over here enjoy your program !!!!!!! - Sailor M.H., in Kuwait

We have received many boxes of wonderful things here in Afghanistan, and I wanted to thank you for your dedication and enormous efforts to take care of us. We truly do not need for anything here accept our loved ones from home, which you can't send. I feel better taken care of in theater than ever before in my life.  I feel American commitment to this war effort through your generosity and devotion to caring for us…  – CDR L, US Navy nurse (Jan 2009)

I spent some time with M today, navigating his new Valour-IT laptop. The voice recognition software was fairly easy to use. This picture was taken by the social worker there for their newsletter. Today was the first day she had ever seen him smile! ...M did not want to put the computer away when I was leaving. He wanted to go through the tutorial again and make sure he knew how to do everything. Thank you all for helping change the life of this hero. - Angel Greta.

I am the commander of Charlie Company [3-10], an Aero-Medical Evacuation Company, and wanted to say thank you for taking such great care of my Soldiers and I.  We are constantly getting items that really make things easier for us here in Iraq.  Your support and dedication are greatly appreciated… - MAJ Lineberry

Thank you so much for delivering the computer, quilt and goodies.  It is comforting to know there are people who care so much.  After a year of surgeries, treatment and therapy, it can be discouraging. – Captain V

Thank you all so very much for the care and compassion you have for the soldiers of our great nation.  Your dedication to the morale of our troops is evident every time a box appears on our shelf from the many Angels across the country.  It’s people like you that keep the fighting spirit in the American soldier. – Specialist D, in Afghanistan

Thanks you so much for all the coffee.  Of course, I am sharing it with the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines working with me here.   A good cup of joe is one of the highlights of our long days over here in Baghdad. - Colonel McCarthy, USMC

I would LOVE to thank everyone at Soldiers…I loved everything.  It helped out a lot. I know that when mail call came around and they called my name, my day was instantly better, and I’m glad that there are people out there that are willing to write and send things.  It boosted my morale and made it easier.  The time flew by because I got books and snacks and a lot of other things…Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. - SrA Perez, Afghanistan (Jan, 2009)

...It is from many people like yourselves that we make it through rough times. Every snack, book, or card sent to us brightens up our day and lets many of us know that people still care. These packages and especially the cards from elementary children lift our spirits higher than the sky. Even though we are thousands of miles away from home, the warmth of the heart is felt upon arrival of these packages. I take great pride in knowing that I help defend a country in which many people like yourselves are still warmhearted and caring. I know now why I do this: for my country, for my home, and all the people in it. May the blessings of a thousand angels sing upon your lives. Thank you. - SPC James

Since being officially adopted by April, I have received many letters and warm wishes that I was brought to tears...As my time ends here in the next month or so I reflect on all the support that has been given to me from...the many people who adopt soldiers through this organization...

The true heroes are the men and women who stand behind the United States Military. The same men and women who give us the courage to fight, the same men and women who empower us with their support and prayers. On the behalf of all the men and women of the armed forces, I would like to thank you for all that you have done for us. - SGT Z (Afghanistan, Nov 2008)

Christmas came early this year and I just wanted to say thank you.  If only you could have seen the looks on my troops' faces when all those boxes came in.  I have never seen such a giddy group of grown men.  The blankets were snatched up first (I think since that was the first box opened) and then they tore into the other boxes.  We have a group sharing an office here, so it was cute to see the guys barter and trade goods.  The socks and coffee mugs were very hot items.  And, much to my surprise, the little toys were quickly snatched up as well.  Grown men, little toys, big grins, priceless.  Thanks again for your continued support, it means a lot to me and the guys.  Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season, ours just got a whole bunch better. - CW2 Hobin (Afghanistan, Nov 2008)

My son, SPC Charles Smith, was in Germany after he was injured by an IED in Iraq. I would like to say Thank You to the Soldiers' Angels for being there for him.

I have attached a picture of him in his "Soldiers' Angels" T-shirt. I had no idea even who the Soldiers' Angels were, as when I got this pic sent to me online, I could not figure out what it said, or meant. Now I do know both.

I appreciate so much what you did for him...I have now joined the Soldiers' Angels to help others as my son was helped.

Again, thank you to the Soldiers Angels' in Germany... from the bottom of my heart. - Sincerely, Susan Davis

I can't tell you how much our sponsors made our deployment time better/easier. Movies, music, food stuff, batteries by the dozen, and letters kept me going on many a mission. We were constantly in the fight as infantry Soldiers...I really didn't have anyone else back stateside or otherwise to send me anything, so you were my family in my time of need. I cannot express how important that lifeline was for me during that period. It kept me going, and it gave me purpose during my down times: writing letters and taking pictures to send back to the sponsors, etc. Everything that I got, I shared with my buddies, who were equally appreciative. Our sponsors sent cookies and chips and ramen noodles, etc. That stuff kept us going for a long time. When you're stuck on a Fire Base with about 45 Soldiers and you're constantly being attacked, that perimeter becomes a prison cell…anything from the world makes a huge physiological effect. - Sergeant P.W.

About two weeks ago I was informed by my friend that they could no longer care for my dog Breaker...I was in panic, what was I do to? I am in Iraq and my dog, who is like my child, needs a new home...One early morning I sat down at my computer and began to write my heart out to Kathy (a Soldiers' Angels friend), and explain to her my concerns and fears. By that afternoon Kathy emailed me and told me she had found someone to care for Breaker. That person was Andrea in Minnesota, but Breaker is in Kansas.  How will I get him there? Kathy and Andrea assured me that they would work their Soldiers' Angels magic and get Breaker to Minnesota.

Once I gave them the ok, I provided Andrea with the contact information of my friend who had Breaker, and the next day someone picked him up. Late last night I received an email from Andrea with a picture of Breaker and her dog Riley sitting on the couch together, happy as can be!

Thank God for Soldiers' Angels! They saved me and gave me peace! - Senior Airman Nicole

John and I received one of your backpacks. I was shot in Afghanistan and I'm now at home recovering with my family...I thank you for your support of the Soldiers, and your prayers. Support from people like you makes me proud to serve this great nation. I hope this finds you in good health, and my family and I thank you very much. - SFC P (Army Special Operations, 2008).

Oh my dear Angels, thank you so much for remembering my son on his birthday while he is in Afghanistan. I just received a letter today (dated July 27), And Jim mentioned with joy having received the cards and packages from your organization..."I received cards and packages from people I never met, it brightened my day, it was awesome." Letters coming home are slow and erratic. But I wanted you to know that the letters I received in August changed. They were more like the letters my son would right...optimistic and lighthearted. Again my most sincere thanks for being his angels. You made a real difference in my son's life. - Terry (August 2008)

I recently received a package with your emblem on it and in it were some PJs, towels, and a phone card. I'm currently stationed at a small patrol base, and the comfort these items bring will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. - PFC S.N. (Iraq, 2008)

I received the box with the hygiene and snacks.  THANK YOU so much.  You guys over there really are angels.  Here are a few pics of us enjoying your box.  Once again, thanks. - SGT O.

Here are a couple of photos of the Swap Meet we have. It is where we put out all the donations sent, and the soldiers come and get what they need. They live for the Saturdays we do this.

I got the packages you sent. You are all so wonderful. Thank you all so much. I also appreciate how much you get the word out about us. I have been contacted by others and they mention they were referred by you... - Janice, 345th Combat Support Hospital (Iraq, 2008)

I was medically retired form the Army in July 2007 and returned home to Texas. I ended up in San Antonio where we fell upon hard times. I, by the grace of God, met someone from Soldiers' Angels who helped me and my family get through those hard times. We have made it up onto our feet and are actually doing quite well thanks to Angela and Soldiers' Angels. I am currently working as a contractor for the government at [a military base] and was wondering if you had a team in this area. If so how would I be able to contact that team and offer my time to help in any way possible? And if not, could there be one in this area soon, or how could this be accomplished? I am beyond thankful for all that Soldiers' Angels did for me and my family. I would like to offer more than money to help any other soldier or veteran in need and I believe that your organization is tops at accomplishing this. I would love the opportunity to help give back to the soldier. I know that money is a good way to help give but would like to more than just that. Thank you. - KS

Thank you ever so much for the new laptop. I'm already using it here on the patio of the Mologne house with Monica and the others. It is AWESOME!!!!!!! I desperately needed a new computer. I've been using one that I purchased before i got hit in 2003. This is a dream come true. With love and the greatest appreciation - SGT Ron, Walter Reed Army Medical Center

My son was lucky enough to be adopted by Soldiers' Angels. Michelle provided many special boxes filled with love and hugs. She included him in her family's life and he felt as though he knew them personally. He certainly enjoyed the family and their well wishes. His last box from them was sent a little too late for the mail as they had left for home. Michelle made another effort and sent it to our home. He grinned when he saw the package and immediately sat down to write her a note! Included in the box were Valentine wishes from soooo many Angels across the nation. I was fortunate to get to read the cards and I just want to tell you all how wonderful you are for doing this great thing for our service men and women! My husband and I both retired from the Navy, he served in Vietnam and was not as lucky to have such Angels. You are all very special people! Our nation is fortunate to have people who serve and those who care! Thank you! - JB

I can not even begin to express the elation that we experienced upon receiving your presents. We had so many packages and letters that our Humvees were packed to the brim, a first ever. Never in our wildest imaginations did we expect to receive so much generosity. Knowing that we have Angels back home looking after us makes us feel really good. We are forever indebted to the kindness of the donors. Semper Fi. - Doc C

I am a mother of an injured soldier. We just wanted to thank you for the backpack with tons of goodies. It is great to know so many people care. You really lift their spirits. Thank you again. - LC

Angel Stories

I just wanted to tell you all how great I think this organization is. I am on my 6th soldier that I have adopted!! My first one has since come home, about 2 years ago.  I actually got to meet him last October because he was in my town for awhile. We have become very close friends and kept in touch through Facebook and MySpace. I am actually getting on a plane tomorrow here in Atlanta and flying to Chicago to spend a long weekend with him and go sightseeing in Chicago!

I am so very grateful to Soldiers Angels' for the opportunity to have met him.  He is actually getting deployed again this year, so I am going to keep up my Angel duties when he us gone. Thanks again!!! - Sara

I am so very proud to be able to serve as a Soldiers' Angel….and be a part of the crochet team! I delivered my quilts during Christmas to my local Spokane VA and was thrilled to have them so happily received. I love to serve my Soldiers!  Imagine my surprise when one of my veteran friends gave me a SA denim jacket as a  gift!!! I CRIED like a baby! I wear it EVERYWHERE!!!

I saved the best for last: I just received a "Freedom Team Salute" from the US Army. One of my Soldiers nominated me for the award. Imagine… they are the ones  making the sacrifices yet, they are so incredibly grateful for us. I was so very touched.

My life has truly been changed by one human interest story on the local news about SA almost five years ago. It was then that I signed up and became an "angel". From that moment on, I have pulled family and friends in with me.  Thank you the opportunity to serve through Soldiers' Angels. – Donna

I became an Angel in 2006.  I was also planning my wedding.  As I wrote to my soldier I told him about the progress of my planning.  He wrote back to me and I cried every time I read his letters.  He was right in the midst of the fighting.  He sent me a Christmas card and I cried again.  He wrote to me about bombs and said that if you hear the blast you know you are alive.

My wedding day came in July of 2007.  It was a wonderful day!  A few weeks after the wedding, I had had a long day a work and when I walked into the door of my home my husband said 'You have a package from your soldier."  I burst into tears.  I carefully opened the box and found the items were wrapped in toilet paper because that was all he had.  He sent us a wedding gift.  Two tall glasses with the dates of the war and the seals for the Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Air Force.  The glasses were beautiful and I show them to everyone and say, "My soldier gave these to me as a wedding present."

My soldier is home now and we have kept in contact.  I just wanted to thank you for giving me the opportunity to meet and support such a brave, caring man as he fought for our freedom.  -  Sarah

I just wanted to thank you because this has been one of the best experiences of my life.   My second soldier and his roommate plan on coming to visit me next year, and we will talk via email and cell phone when they get home.   I will also keep in contact with my first soldier.

The experience for me has been wonderful!!!! - Jeanne M.

Did I tell you what an amazing feeling it was when I saw our heroes off loaded from the medevac into Bethesda yesterday and every single one of them had an Angel backpack??? And a couple of the Marines had their Blankets of Hope covering them as they were wheeled in...and one had on an Angel beanie covering head wounds...I swear until you see it first hand, I don't think it really hits how far the Angels Wings really do reach!!! I am still in awe. - Kassie

I became an Angel just this year, and my soldier emailed me this morning to let me know that he was in Germany.  Safe with his family!!  He is an amazing young man.  He was always thinking of "my soldiers."  He is a staff sergeant with six deployments under his belt.  He made sure that I knew all of his men came home!   ALL of his men!!  I felt like I had adopted them all.  He let me know what kind of movies they liked, the video game systems they had and that they loved football.  I sent them a football & my next letter was addressed to "The Super Nadine O" and "The Troops love you!"  He always told me, "Thank you for everything you do, and your support."

Patti, without you I never would have had the honor of helping these soldiers.  I send my soldier a "Thank You" - every note I received from him was a lift to my heart.  I don't think my letters and packages made him feel any better than he made me feel.  It brought my heart so much joy to know that I was helping them and that they appreciated the effort and my silly stories.  I was really surprised at myself.... it was so easy to write to him.  I told him about my everyday life, the funny things that happen, the area which I live....I wrote to him just as if he knew everyone in my family.  I introduced him to everyone.

Thank you Patti for Soldiers' Angels.  It is an honor to be a part of something so special! - Nadine O.
