Music Teacher Makes Angelic Connection

Songwriter and music teacher Denise Romas couldn’t have imagined what would happen when Patti and Shelle unknowingly chose her song as the soundtrack for the 2009 Day of the Deployed video.  It shouldn’t have surprised her though, considering the magical history of A Healing Angel.

In September 2004, Denise had new melody in mind but didn’t intend to write a song particularly about an Angel.  “I just had a tune in my head,” Denise says, and “then the words just flowed.”  It was written in an hour.  Denise describes it as “divinely delivered.   This one just came flowing right out.”

A week or two later, one of Denise’s fellow teachers a sudden tragic loss.  Denise and her musical colleagues at the school decided to record A Healing Angel and give it to her to express their sorrow and support.  The teacher and her family loved it, and when the teacher came back to school she said, “I want the whole world to hear this.”   Denise then had it manufactured as a CD single and began distributing it as an independent artist.  It has also appears on a track in Denise's full-length album.  She often hears from people for whom the song has been a great comfort, who feel it has been written just for them and their situation.  “The song has taken on a life of its own,” Denise explains.

When Denise recently Googled her name to check if someone was writing about her music, she stumbled across the Day of the Deployed video and contacted Angel Shelle Michaels to make sure DeniseRomas.com was linked and to learn more about Soldiers’ Angels.

The very next day, Patti called about Voices of a Grateful Nation, who had heard about the song the previous night.  “How come we haven’t heard of her before?” they’d asked.  Denise is now invited to a Voices of a Grateful Nation event in February, where she’ll be performing with the house band and possibly a gospel choir.  It will also feature singers from local elementary schools, a perfect fit with her 29-year career as a K-4 music teacher in Long Island, New York.

Denise is thrilled and honored to find that her song has also touched Soldiers’ Angels and is happy to see it used in support of the troops.  She has been telling all her friends and colleagues about Soldiers' Angels and the many ways they can support the troops.  There is even discussion of getting the students at her school involved. “SA is a beautiful, beautiful organization,” she says.  “I do feel like I am guided by angels personally, and I am honored to be a part of it.”
