Mrs. Ohio International is headed to her final competition in Chicago, IL with a very important platform--Soldiers' Angels!
Katheleen Wallace was named Mrs. Ohio International in December on a platform emphasizing volunteerism. "Government and professionals try to meet the needs of the organizations but at times it is not enough" she said. "That is where volunteers come in. No matter what organization you volunteer for, you can make a difference by working with others towards a common goal."
A military wife (her husband recently retired as a U.S. Navy corpsman deploying with the Marines), Katheleen has also worked as a registered nurse for 21 years. She first encountered Soldiers' Angels in 2007 while her husband was deployed. "Soldiers' Angels kept me busy while he was gone," she explains. Katheleen has adopted over a dozen soldiers and is now the Ohio state Community Network Coordinator for Soldiers' Angels.
As Mrs. Ohio international, Katheleen has been busy educating people about the volunteer opportunities of Soldiers' Angels. At every pageant-related event she sets up a table with SA bracelets and website info, flyers and Christmas cards to sign for the troops.
Currently, Katheleen is working with a local basket-making company to raise money for Soldiers' Angels. With her input, American Traditions has designed a beautiful patriotic covered basket with a lid design that includes all five service branch insignia and the words, "All Gave Some, Some Gave All." Seven dollars from the sale of each basket will go to Soldiers' Angels.*
Congratulations to Katheleen for her win, and best wishes as she goes to the international competition, buoyed by a cloud of cheering Angels!
