Recruiting the Angels
In October, US Army Recruiters from across the country came to visited 5th Recruiters Brigade at Ft. Sam Houston for training, which included a day of service at Soldiers' Angels San Antonio. They each visited the Soldiers' Angels Support Center over a two-day period to learn more about Soldiers' Angels and volunteer their time to help with warehouse organization.
Soldiers' Angels staff member Crystal started them out with a tour of the facility and a short history lesson of the organization, along with a Q & A session. After the tour, many of the recruiters shared stories of how Soldiers' Angels had impacted their lives. Several talked of receiving care packages from an adopting Angel during their deployments. They also said they were excited to take what they'd learned back to their recruiting stations and spread the word about all the ways Soldiers' Angels supports the troops.
After the tour and conversation, the recruiters tackled the warehouse, organizing item donations and t-shirts. Crystal was thrilled with the results of their hard work. "This group of 20 men and women were so moved by what Soldiers' Angels does for our military that they literally transformed our warehouse in two days," she said.
The appreciation was mutual, as Staff Sergeant Mike Aguero explained on bealf of his fellow recruiters. "I think last week was an eye-opener to some of the guys, seeing how much work goes into the care packages that come our way overseas," he said. "I know for me, to get a hand-written letter from a complete stranger while I was in Iraq, it was quite a moving experience. So to be able to give back a little, even volunteering to sort boxes for a few hours, it meant a lot to me....I wish there was more I could do."
Thank you to the U.S. Army Recruiters for their support, assistance and encouragement!
