School Lives Up to Its Name

The students and teachers of the Jose M. Lopez Middle School Athletics Department in San Antonio conduct a service project for each nine-week school period.  Most-recently they gathered hygiene items to fill care packages for the troops.

The collection period lasted two weeks, led by the 400 students in grades 7-8 who participate in athletics.  In total, they filled four large bins with mostly travel-sized hygiene items.  "I was impressed with the kids and all the effort they put into doing it," says Assistant Athletic Coordinator Katie Woods.

A "support the troops" project is a natural for Lopez Middle School, as they are named after a Medal of Honor recipient from San Antonio.

Congratulations to the Lopez Athletics Department for doing your namesake proud!
