HOPE MILLS - Wounded soldiers usually are rushed to hospitals with nothing more than the uniforms they are wearing.
But the Family Advisory Committee at Jack Britt High School wants to change that.
The Soldier's Angel Foundation is a nationwide project to collect items for soldiers, especially those who have been wounded, Vicky Carter said.
Carter, a member of the Jack Britt advisory group, is in charge of the local effort.
Soldiers in the 82nd Airborne have been among the wounded, Carter said.
The foundation is collecting sweatshirts and sweat pants, brown T-shirts, pajama and lounge pants, socks, stationery and envelopes, prepaid calling cards, throw blankets, shorts, tennis shoes and slippers, toiletries and boxer shorts. Cash donations are accepted, Carter said.
A collection box is in the office at Jack Britt High School.
"We just want to show the troops the community cares and the kids care," Carter said. "A lot of these (soldiers) are 18, 19 or 20 years old and it's their first time away from home. If they get hurt, they only have parents. With this, it will help."
Anyone can make a donation, Carter said. Collection deadline is April 8 and items can be dropped off at Jack Britt High School.
"I would love it if the entire community of Fayetteville got involved with this," Carter said.
